Breast Pump Question

I have an Ameda pump from my first child, but the thing hasn't been used in 2-3 years.  I'm just wondering if there is anything that I need to replace on the pump before I use it for my baby due in January?  Does anyone know??

Re: Breast Pump Question

  • I have a Medela and am replacing the valves, membranes and tubing.

  • I would call Ameda with your model number and ask them.  I have heard they have awesome customer service and also will sometimes send free parts.  :-)

  • Do you have insurance? You can call this number through toys r us and they will do all the work for you to determine if you qualify for a free pump through your insurance. https://m.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=22729026

Thank you for this!! I've been told by several people to check to see if I qualify for a free pump through insurance, but had no idea where to start the process.

It's super easy. Call the number, give them your insurance info, your OBs name, your name and address, email address and they will do all the work and then you get an email a few days later listing what you qualify for and what you can upgrade to for a price. I qualified for a medela and ameda and could upgrade to two other medela pumps for $95 or $195. All you have to do is get your OB to fax them a prescription for a breast pump. Mine will be shipped to me once my due date is 30 days away.

  • You can also contact the insurance company directly. I looked on the insurance companies website and found where they take my insurance. I ordered it already but they won't send it for several more weeks.

  • I am so bummed that I have a grandfathered plan and don't get a free or discounted pump!

But to answer your question, I would replace all tubing.

  • I contacted my insurance directly too and it is already sent and here :-)  I just called the 1-800 number on the back of my card and they took care of everything.  Let us know how it works out for you.

  • I hate dealing with the insurance company. They tried to give me the runaround so I let someone else do it for me :)
