2 month shots

My guy just had his 2 month well check today. He's super healthy and happy and generally super cool kid, but he's been asleep for almost 3 hours after his shots. Is this normal? They told me about the low grade fever, fussiness, achey legs....but they never said "oh he might crash and sleep a lot". Anyone? Bueller......Bueller.....?

Re: 2 month shots

  • I honestly can't remember. Can you call the aftermath hours line and ask?

  • Eh, I'm chalking it up under the category "normal". He woke up pissed, with sore legs :( we did bath and nursed and he's out again. It makes me feel better that he ate so big

  • Normal. DS would sleep a lot after shots.

    My Charts since 2009

  • Normal, though it didn't happen to either of mine. DS was completely unaffected by shots. DD became a horrible fuss ball, on top of her usual colic.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • Not to hijack the thread, but did anyone have other side effects than those mentioned? My husband had a bad reaction to the pertussis vaccine when he was a baby so I'm nervous about that one...our 2 mo appt is coming up soon.
  • The Dr told me to call if he had a fever of 103 or greater, if the shot sight was hot, red, and swollen.... i think those are the signs of a bad reaction. I would mention your concerns to your Dr

What was your husbands reaction? @weib67

  • DS never really had a reaction to any of his shots. He is almost 22 months old and up to date on everything. The only thing that I ever noticed was at his second round of the rotovirus vacinne he had a little bit of an upset tummy for a day or two. Outside of that, shots usually just made him a little extra sleepy and want some extra cuddles that day. I remember being worried after each set of shots that something bad would happen---and nothing ever did.

  • one of my baby's vaccines at the 2 months mark caused her shot location to get inflamed and swollen and she ran a low grade fever and was fussy (vaccine site hurt her too when touched) all of which I was told to expect from that specific vaccine (can't recall the exact name of it in English right now) and that is normal and to put cool water and starch packs on the site. The doctor said that, and also the baby health booklet issued by the health ministry here said that, I asked a few other people and they all said they had the same thing happen to their babies. Not sure if it's a common reaction or if they just administer it badly in this country!

  • @NLewis1‌ he had nonstop high pitched screaming which according to his research was due to brain swelling caused by the vaccine - I'm not sure where he found that info. His mom told us his symptoms but she didn't seem to think it was due to brain swelling do who knows. He's the type to be over protective about this kind of thing but I don't want to disregard his research and there are so many conflicting opinions on vaccine side effects, timing, etc.
