So I don't know how many mommas out there had breech babies but I do know that it can come with extra concerns. My LO was frank breech which led to a c-section birth. Since she was breech she had to have an ultrasound of her hips at 3 weeks. Thankfully there is no dysplasia ( for 3 weeks I worried about this). Also she has some extra ridges on her head. The Pedi is unsure if this is because of how she sat against my ribs or not. So she had to see a cranial specialist as well. The specialist said at this point we just monitor. Closer to 9 months if needed we will do a CT. According to the specialist at this point she is having normal growth rates for her head so although there are ridges it may be nothing and I should not worry. At this point I'm not as much worried as DH is (which is odd since I'm usually the worrier).
Any other breech babies having to see multiple specialists or with extra concerns?
Edit:question
Re: Breech babies
My DD was breech also. We are going for her hip ultrasound on Monday. My DD1 had a hip x-ray when she was 4 months because I was born with hip dysplasia. Luckily her hips were fine and I'm hoping DD2's hips will be fine too. The pedi works her hips at every appointment and doesn't notice anything wrong from that standpoint so I'm not super worried about it. Plus, I know that I've turned out ok since my dysplasia was caught and treated very early.
GL with the cranial specialist. I wouldn't have thought about that being an issue but now that I've had a breech baby that camped out in my ribs, I totally understand how something like that could happen.
So far with DS2, nothing related to his position has come up yet. They just check for hip clicks at his appointments.
DS1 has always been developmentally right on track and walked a little early so I'm not too worried.
Good luck!
We have to go in for an u/s of her hips somewhere from 6-8weeks old.
Our orthopedic pediatrician (we have him for lower limb issues not related to the breech birth) said that HD is most common with the criteria: first child, female, breech.
They did an u/s of my DD's hips the night before we left the hospital and they have follow up u/s done as a precaution.
