Breaking up with your OB...wwyd?

Heyo!  I know you can't make the decision but just looking for some opinions or relatable situations!  I thought there was a similar post earlier in our month but I couldn't find anything quite like I'm asking so I'm sorry if I'm double posting guys!

We met our Doula last night who I really clicked with.  I am currently with a large OB practice but in my heart I've always wanted to go with a Midwife.  I have seen my "immediate" OB a few times and have a good forming relationship with her.  My Doula gave me some suggestions of Midwives and which hospitals they deliver at.  I looked into it today and my insurance covers Midwifery delivery and the Midwife suggested to me is open for another April birth.

Do you "break-up" with your OB office, meaning, do you sit down with your OB and explain why your leaving or do you just call and ask for you records?  Is there etiquette to leaving the practice you have been with for a few years?  If there isn't then I guess I'm good to go! Thanks in advance...happy ALMOST friday!

When I switched I just gave my new place permission to access records and they called the old place for me no problem.  If you want to sit down with them I'm not sure whether they would accommodate having not done it myself.  But if you want, just ask.

I went with a MW instead of an OB and I've been very happy with my choice so far.  It's all about preference but from your post it sounds like a MW is right up your alley.

I think just modify your record release form so your midwife can get a hold of your records, or ask for a copy of them and explain over the phone you've decided to go another route with your prenatal care. Like PPs said, you'll just get billed for that appointment to sit down and say "it's not you, it's me".

Thanks all...I like the idea of modifying my release so that if I need to, I can go back for gyno appointments in the future. I won't be doing a face to face--I agree not necessary. Thanks for your input...it was helpful!
