For those who failed both 1Hr & 3Hr

What now?
I failed my 1Hr and I can't take the 3Hr due to always passing out so they gave me an alternative but I was wondering once you fail both what happens?

Do you get medication?
Special diet?
Monitoring?
Bed rest?

What happens? I just want to be prepared and if any of you ladies are going through it I would like to know. TIA

Also I'm sorry you didn't pass! Much love and hugs and internet doughnuts!

  • Medication. Monitoring blood sugar and watching my diet is what I have to do.

  • Also. I miss doughnuts but I found that snickers ice cream bars don't raise my levels too badly so at least I have that going for me.

  • I'm still not on medication, but that's still pending my u/s results tomorrow. I take my blood sugar 4x a day. I would think they could let you take your blood sugar for a couple weeks, and that would be as good as the 3hr
  • I just had to control it with diet. For some, they may require medication. It just depends on how your body handles gd.

  • Thanks ladies I was just thinking about it and my doctor never actually told me the consequences of failing.

    @4littlebears‌ yeah that's what I'm doing now. 4 times a day for 2 weeks
  • I failed my first one too. I meet with my doctor Tuesday to discuss what next. However, I've been passing out since 5 or 6 weeks pregnant supposedly cause of my blood pressure dropping. I was curious if that was why you were passing out too?
  • They put you on s special diet. You will have to test your blood 4 times a day. If you can control it by your diet, then you wont have to take any medicine. Your diet is not that hard to change. It is manageable. The hardest thing is starting it. Don't be scared, just watch your carbs and talk to a nutritionist
  • I found out on Monday I have GD.  So what that meant for me is that I will have to see a specialist on top of my OBGYN.  I will have to go to a special class with a nutritionist and they will discuss how to use the glucometer and the special diet  I will have to go on.

I will imagine I will have to prick my finger about 4 times a day. Once in the morning before I have eaten anything and then one hour after breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I talked to the nurse yesterday and she made it seem like they will try to control my blood sugar levels first with diet alone.  If it seems that isn't working, then I will have to take medicine.

I believe I might also have to go to the hospital for non stress tests.
  • With DD is was all Diet controlled. I was supposed to have my 3hr tis past monday, but since my Ute decided to go into labor instead, I didn't do it. Then they gave me steroids and told me not to do my 3hr until after Nov 5th because the steroid will raise my blood sugar and give me false positive.

Mine is due to extremly low iron levels. I'm am 8. 7 is cutting close and anything under would require blood transfusions. 12 is healthy.
  • I am not sure if I have it this time yet (I took the test yesterday) but last time they had me test my levels 4 times a day (1 fasting and then 1 hour after each meal) and then I met with my OB weekly so she could check my levels.  I was able to control it with diet, I cut out sugar and balanced carbs with protein and had no problems.  Some people require medication or insulin but luckily mine was well controlled with diet.
