When to switch from unisom/B6 to Zofran?

I have been taking half a unisom at night and about 75mg of B6 for almost a week. While it seems to be working at night in helping me sleep and even keeping my stomach comfortable when I do wake up (which used to keep me up), it is not really touching it during the day. I tried taking half Saturday morning, but it just made me super tired, almost where I couldn't function. And now I have thrown up at least 6 times, and once a day for the last 4 days. So should I see about trying something else like Zofran? I'm still nervous about taking it but don't know that I can keep throwing up everyday and feeling terrible 24/7.

Anyone taking Zofran or another prescription....when did you get to the point where you knew you needed something more powerful?

  • When you get to the point that the Zofran/B6 combo isn't helping anymore, it's ok to ask for Zofran or Diclegis. Last time, it was somewhere around 8 weeks that it just wasn't enough for me. There's no shame in asking for something a little stronger. Hope you find something that helps.

  • Dicglegis is similar to what you're doing now but it's extended release and you can take it during the day.

If you are miserable, don't suffer and give your doctor a call. Mine was more than happy to call in a script to keep the MS away.

  • Thanks ladies. I am miserable. More poor DD is so starved for attention. Tonight i threw up the most I ever have and I just lost it. I locked myself in the bathroom and sobbed. DD kept running to the door, saying "Daddy why is mommy so sad? Is mommy ok? Baby is making mommy sick." Tomorrow is her first party at preschool for Halloween and I can't even be the one to put together to treats or get her all excited. If I wasn't pregnant, I would be so over the top excited about being there tomorrow, but instead I'm dreading it because I'm afraid of getting sick.

  • @junch817 I was in your same boat for the last two weeks. Several times I day I just curled up in a ball and cried. The only thing I looked forward to was the second trimester. I couldn't function at work or at home. I think this stress was much worse for the baby than a med which has worked and been safe for thousands of women.

  • Thank you all. I called my doctor and they wrote a script for Zofran. DH is picking it up after work. Nervous still so I might hang onto it for a bit. I think I was put on Zofran once in the hospital for throwing up due to pain meds. It made me soooo constipated and cramped up. Like very intense cramping. So I had to stop taking it. Blah. I'm just feeling very down on myself lately and I wish I wasn't. I wish telling myself it's only temporary and that I will get through it would be enough to get through it, but it's not.

  • I waited through two weeks of sheer hell before trying the zofran. It is the only thing that has helped. Don't wait to take it, trust me. It will feel like it has saved your life. I talked to my doctor today about the constipation and she said to start using colace. I don't know how much you were prescribed, but only 4mg a day is what it took for me, and I was on the verge of going to the hospital. I have had to take eight, twice, but I just figure my hormones were nutso those days. Even if you just take it one day every once in awhile, it's worth it to give your body a break!
  • I am on Zofran now, but I had to also have my doctor get my a laxative. I had constipation issues before pregnancy, but now with pregnancy and Zofran it's X10 as bad. I am not sick, and I am able to work my fullshift. All I suggest is getting something for constipation, and listening to your body.
  • My Dr gave me some Diclectin? ( i think thats what its called. the ones with the pregnant lady on them).  They work wonders at night, but make me WAY too drowsy for the day.  I tried them last weekend for the first time, and napped 4 hours after taking them, both days.  Needless to say, I only take them at night now.. but they still help.  I wake up WAY less sick, and find the days a little more manageable.

I hope you find some relief soon

@Kalynn85 Thanks for the tip. Also I find it crazy to find someone online with the same name, spelled the same exact way! I have never met anyone with the same spelling. And I don't know what 85 means to you, but that is my birth year and its freaking me out lol!!

That is my name, and I was born 7/9/85. Lol.
  • My friend who is pregnant told me the day we told her we're pregnant to get something stronger if I thought I needed it. I'm going to the pharmacy today to grab some gravol with ginger. My doc suggested that as a first step.
