Traveling for a funeral?

My nan has been in the hospital this week for complications related to cancer treatment. From the family updates it seems that it is just a matter of time for her. In fact her wake and funeral are already scheduled for Friday and Saturday (I find this kind of disturbing). She and 95%of my family are 3hours away and I'm not sure whether we will make the trip for the funeral (whenever it happens). I'm breastfeeding and don't have a freezer stash and I don't think I'd want to baby wear to a funeral. My mom is also sad because she wants to come visit but doesn't want to plan a trip here with things so up in the air. Would you make the trip? My grandpa just called to say not to worry about coming up but I think I will feel guilty if I don't.

Re: Traveling for a funeral?

  • I would go. Three hours seems manageable. Like @crawford411‌ said, you can pull over to change/feed. We're driving from Chicago to NYC for Thanksgiving and our plan is just very frequent stops (and hopefully some pumped milk by then).

  • I would go.. :) three hours isn't that far at all
  • We drove 3 hrs with LO and our toddler when the baby was 4 days old. At that age, they sleep really well in the car. Nobody would think twice about you babywearing to your own grandmother's funeral, IMO, or uou can leave LO in a stroller next to you/your husband and stand at the back in case you need to make a quick exit.
  • I'd go too. I also think seeing a sweet new baby would help cheer people up.
