Trouble TTC

Intro.

Hi everyone, I finally decided to join in the discussions after having the worst week on my last 5 days of clomid. Reading all of your posts kept me from going completely crazy in the throes of clomid. My DH and I have been TTC since 12/2013. Now that Christmas is right around the corner again I have had an overwhelming feeling of sadness and loneliness and I thought it was time to find some support. I have had irregular menstrual cycles since I was 13. I would have long, heavy, painful periods then no period for months, but constant spotting. When I started taking BC my cycles improved dramatically with no spotting. My periods were better, but still heavy. All of the irregular cycle madness began again as soon as I stopped my BC when we began TTC. We TTC for 5 months with visits to my OB every 2 months to check in before we began any treatment. In March 2014 I had my first midcycle scan that showed I was not ovulating and had thin endometrial lining. In April 2014 my OB recommended I start femara. In May 2014 I started taking femara and progesterone for 3 months with no luck. Then, we started clomid 100 mg and progesterone in August and September. I have ovulated every cycle since I began the medications. Somehow I ovulate on day 8 or 9 each cycle and each cycle lasts about 30 days. The plan for this month is clomid 150 mg + estradiol + progesterone. I have not experienced any horrific side effects from the medications except for acne and serious mood swings. Some days I cry off and on all day long for no reason at all and no matter how hard I try I cannot think rationally. We are planning a laparoscopy for January. I love my OB, but I'm beginning to think I may need to see an RE. Maybe the lap results will determine the next step. I would appreciate any advice. Even as I post this I feel a little less alone!

Re: Intro.

  • I am sorry to hear about all the struggles you are going through. I too have had irregular cycles since 13 and know the frustration that comes along with it. I highly suggest going to an RE. And, if you aren't already doing so, your Clomid cycles should be monitored. Welcome and good luck!

  • Welcome. I am so sorry that you have to be here and that you are having a hard time. It is difficult not to be overwhelmed with how sad and lonely IF is, and on top of it, the meds! Everyone understands here, and I hope the support you get from the 3T community helps.

I think making an appointment with an RE is a good idea. At the very least it is something proactive you can do. Sometimes making a plan is the only thing that keeps me sane.

Thank you all so much for your support and advice. Everything was normal on my husband's end (OB checked prior to clomid). My OB has been doing midcycle scans and then serum HCG & progesterone. I had follies > 20 one on each ovary last cycle. We have been planning on adding me to my husband's insurance plan in January & doing the laparoscopy to rule out endo then (it was going to be very expensive for me through the HRA I have at work). I was hoping to take a break from meds in December then decide if we should see an RE pending the lap. Does that sound like a realistic plan?
  • I honestly would say to go ahead and see a RE. They are much better at seeing what tests you need, reading the results, and ultimately getting you pregnant. I can't make the decision for you, but I would push you to go ahead and get the referral. Welcome to TTTC and I hope your stay is short!

  • Welcome! I'm so sorry you're feeling stressed. Probably the Clomid doesn't help that, and holiday season can make everything tougher emotionally! I'm glad you have decided to intro. :) My advice is- it's time to see the RE! I absolutely would not go through surgery (or wait on surgery) before having an RE involved in the decisions. With your heavy periods, maybe a lap is the way to go, but I'd want to have an expert look at everything first. There is also something very strange about having 21-22 day luteal phases. Have you been stopping progesterone at 14-15DPO when you get a negative beta?

  • Yes she did that before starting clomid and the SA was normal.
  • Yes, I have been on progesterone each time I've gotten a negative beta. Does the progesterone affect the result?
  • Welcome and good luck!
