Frequent uterine tightening?

Hi, This is my first pregnancy and I'm a little over 24 weeks now. My uterus has been tightening up frequently. Maybe a few times an hour and painless. Are these Braxton hicks contractions or something else? Should I be concerned! Thanks!

Re: Frequent uterine tightening?

  • Sounds like Braxton Hicks to me.  They're generally not a concern unless you're having them several times in an hour.  If that happens, try to take it easy, lay down if you can and up your water intake.  I always find that mine are much less frequent on the days I'm well hydrated.

^^^this. If they pick up in frequency, call your Dr. or the l&d for after hours. They week talk you through how to slow them down.

  • Yep, sounds like BH. The PPS gave good advice about when to worry.

  • I agree with PP. It definitely sounds like BH. Drink extra water and try to take it easy. Don't be afraid to call your OB.

  • I agree with the previous ladies. Braxton hicks. I have them a few times a day. It's a bizarre feeling, but then again pregnancy itself is a weird wild ride. My uterus has a uterus!!!!!
  • My Dr told me it was normal. I felt them earlier with this pregnancy than my last one. I think he said 4 within an hour. I notice I get them/feel them more when I am laying flat on my back. Drink plenty of water. So far, mine aren't painful at all, just tight. I was in labor at home when I was pregnant with my son and thought they were BH's. I didn't feel actual pain until I was about 4 cm in the hospital.

  • So I had one last week and no more???? I have upped my water intake as my heart was racing and dr advice was to drink water. Btw is that the answer to everything- more water??? Is it weird that I haven't had anymore?
