Is a glass of wine or one beer a night too much? This baby is my 3rd so most nights I feel like I need a glass to unwind lol. Does one drink a night seem like too much if I'm BF? DS is 6 weeks.
I don't think it's too much. I will drink 1a night. Not every night but even still I don't think it's a big deal. I've been told of you are ok to drive you are ok to nurse!

A community health class run by nurses told us not to drink while nursing as the baby's liver cannot metabolize as quickly as ours can. So the alcohol stays in their system longer. I abstain because of that. However, this is one of those personal choices that can be highly controversial. You make the decision that's right for you!
I agree that it's a personal decision. That being said, I have a glass of wine probably every other night. I try to time it with her feedings so I'm not drinking it right before she eats. I also follow the "good enough to drive, good enough to breast feed" rule though.
The other night I had, well, we will say more than one glass. So I did decide to feed her from my small frozen stash that night so I didn't have to worry. I'm not going to make a habit of that though! lol
Many days I want to drink a lot. I don't, but oh is it tempting. I will have a drink occasionally and time it with feedings and if he starts wanting to bf an hour after I had a beer, I always have a bottle in the fridge for him. It's up to you to decide what you're comfortable with.
I'll have a glass of something every now and then right after my last pump of the night (I get a 4hr stretch in) although I'd like to drink more sometimes, I just stick to the one bottle/glass/cup/serving.

Ooh my god that's exactly how I feel.. Why is there not a single drop off alcohol in my house.. As a mom with a newborn and a toddler I feel like I need to just carry a bottle around..
I've had a few drinks since LO was born. I'm not a big drinker anymore and would prefer to sleep than drink after putting DS1 and LO down for night. However I will enjoy a beer tonight while watching my Royals win the World Series.
I'm a big fan of those alcohol test strips I have a drink every night and use the strip on the milk from my next pump. It's only been positive once and that was the one time I felt a good buzz from a more potent beer. The LC actually recommended having 1 beer a night bc it helps your milk supply and 1 drink won't get in your milk.
I have no problem having a glass of wine or a beer just about every night...I usually sip it for an hour or so so as not to get buzzed. I don't really understand the whole quickly down a glass of wine then wait 2 hours to feed. This lead me to quit breastfeeding with my first @3 months bc it was stressing me out. Obviously this is a personal choice but if your LO is anything like mine they want to eat non stop after dinner until they go to bed for the night which makes it impossible to enjoy a glass of wine then wait a few hours to feed.
I've had two glasses of wine, they weren't even half way full. I never would have even thought about a drink when I was BFing my first. I always feel a little guilty after doing it. But I dream about it.
If I'm drinking, I usually only have one drink a night. I've been enjoying a hard cider each night during the World Series, usually right after I BF. I also usually have a drink during a football game on Saturdays.
I also have a drink a night. At first it was beer, now wine. Honestly, I've noticed a drop in supply since its been wine. I too drink very slow & drink plenty of water so as not to get buzzed. In my bf class the lc stated that if you have 1 drink, as soon as you go to the bathroom, you've pretty much gotten rid of most of it. It doesn't chill in your milk unless of course you're really buzzed or more!
I have a glass of wine here and there - I was waiting two hours (which was tough cuz my LO rarely goes that long in the evening - maybe I should start drinking at 10AM?) but my cousin's pedi told her it was totally fine to have a glass while nursing or before. Then we asked my husbands uncle (also a pedi) and he said waiting an hour should be totally fine. So I try to wait an hour but I don't stress too much.
I think I should be more concerned with how much caffeine I consume Nobody's taking away my coffee! It doesn't seem to be making LO fuss though, so I think I'm ok. I-)
I normally have a glass of wine or a beer a night. On a couple occasions I had 2 glasses or two beers, but it's after his 7-8ish feed and DH gives a pumped bottle for his 10ish feeding. He goes to sleep by 11:30 and isn't up again until 6ish.
My LO is sleeping from 8-4 most nights. I usually have 1-2 glasses of wine a night. It's out of my system by the time he eats again. If I feel like I need to, I pump and dump before I go to bed.
