  • E's faves are On the Night You Were Born, and Potty.  I suppose Potty is more toddler age, but P enjoyed flipping the pages of it last night, much to E's dismay.

  • Peek-A-Who?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear (I add laminated cutouts of the matching animals on each page so that my therapy kids can choose the match. They love sticking the Velcro pieces on. I've done the same for our book at home. P doesn't yet match, but loves taking the pictures off and on.)

Spot books with the liftable flaps.

We just got a cute 10 Little Lady Bugs board book too.

  • Goodnight Gorilla
    Rosie's Walk
(I like these two because they have words, but not so many that you forget to talk about what's happening in the pictures).

I think most of the Julia Donaldson books come in board book form. The Gruffalo is her biggest hit but I'm resisting that one because I'm always a late adopter. DS loves Tiddler and the Snail and the Whale.

There's a series of texture books here with titles like That's Not My Pirate/Robot/Train/Princess/Monster/Dinosaur/Puppy/Penguin etc.

Many of the classics come in board book form -- Paddington, Clifford, etc.

Some of DS's favorite TV shows have some accompanying board books. They're not great literature, but as part of our larger library it's nice to have them as an option when we are trying to enforce screen time. Plus, some of them are really tiny, so they're great for carrying around. And easier for him to handle without help.

Not board books, but MIL got DS a subscription to Highlights for babies/toddlers and they are pretty sturdy. Sort of like glossy dry-erase paper. Fairly drool-proof and tear-proof, and very portable. I like pulling them out when we are waiting for food at a restaurant.

Also, have seen these in a friend's collection but don't have any of our own
  • E has a bunch of Disney Small World board books and they are fantastic. Bright pictures, animals, rhymes, textures, mirrors, they are all different.

She really loves books though so we have lots of favourites!

  • Cleo's Alphabet Book
  • Just ordered Tap Tap Bang Bang for N bc he is really into tools right now.

    Other favorites:
Guess How Much I Love You
    My Truck Is Stuck
    The Napping House

Pete the Cat (not a board book, but definitely a favorite)

  • You guys have listed a bunch of good ones. Another thing thought I'd mention that is in the same vein is a magazine subscription to Hello. It's from Highlights Magazine and H adores it. It comes every month and is only maybe 10-12 pages long, and they're laminated so they stand up to some serious abuse. They have little poems/songs and very basic seek and finds. I have no idea how expensive it is because my gma bought it as a gift for H, but he seriously carries them around everywhere and we read them over and over again.

  • We have a set of 4 board books called "Baby's First Black and White Books", I think my MIL got the set at Costco.

There is a "Babies", "Faces", "Animals" and "Going Out". Not stories, but pictures with words of things. They are mostly black and white with basic colours, the pictures are very distinct and seem to capture Colin's attention well.

  • M's favorite books right now are
Barnyard Dance (read in a southern accent with realistic animal noises of course)
    Green Eggs and Ham
And a foam book called Ocean with little ocean animals that come apart from the book

I'll have to look into some of these others, I'm surprised at his attention span for reading books so he's going to need some new ones.

SAK we were just talking about getting this. So it is actually age appropriate for the under 2 set? Or at least engaging?  That might be a great xmas gift from someone.
Yeah. H totally loves it. The bigger guys have a subscription to High Five, the step between Hello and Highlightd and it's really good too--for those of you with slightly older kids. Again, I have no idea how much it costs because my gma got them the subscription.
I'll just add another endorsement for these since I mis-referenced them in my post. Also a gift from grandma so I'm not sure of the cost, but DS really enjoys Hello. The little stories and poems are just about the right size for the attention span of a child who is starting to build vocabulary and get interested in talking about pictures. DS probably started to be interested in them around 18-20 months, and now at 2.5 years he's asking to read them before bed and likes talking about what's happening in the pictures. Grandma recently upgraded his subscription to High Five but we're still happy with the Hellos.
  • Thanks @freezorburn, I was just wondering myself whether I should get Hello or High Five for a 2nd birthday gift.

  • No problem. We only just got our first issue of High Five this week. They're not as durable as the Hellos, and it looks like there's some "room to grow" before DS is fully engaged with the stories and activities in it. Will have to see after we've had a little more time with it.
  • We like the Llama Llama books (mostly because it's super cute when G1 says "Llama Llama").

We also have a set of the Mini Masters books that are nice.

I will say, though, the BabyLit books were not our favorites.

  • @ElleBeeDub‌ Do the Llama books come in board format? We borrowed one from the library, but it had regular pages. N asked to read it for weeks even after we took it back to the library.

  • They have some board books. I don't have any of the paper ones yet, but we have 4 or 5 of the boar books. I'd say start with Llama Llama Nighty Night or Llama Llama Wakey Wake. The other board ones have less of a story (more of the one word per page format). G1 loves them all, though :)
