Plus size mamas!

I tried searching this, but the search hates me on the app. I know I have read comments in random threads similar to the questions I am about to ask but I can't recall(or find) them to reread them.

When did you start showing you were pregnant and for a lack of a better term "fat"? I have never had confidence issues with my body but for some reason being pregnant makes me super paranoid!

I have been taking weekly pictures and see a difference but I feel like I only see a difference because I want to see a difference!

And thoughts/advice would be great! Thanks!

Re: Plus size mamas!

  • I'm 20 weeks and not showing yet, but I am also still down from my starting weight. My regular clothes still fit but I've started to wear maternity clothes to make myself feel better.

  • Size 16/18 here. I'm 22 weeks and only really "popped" in the past week or so. At least, people who know me know that I've popped. I had two people (one stranger, one co-worker I don't see often) tell me yesterday that I don't look pregnant at all. Wrong thing to say! I'm about 25 lbs up from my starting weight. I was one of the "eat so you don't feel nauseous" people in first tri and packed on 20 lbs in 19 weeks. It's slowing down a lot more now that I have energy and am eating like a normal person. Oh, I've been wearing maternity since about week 10 for the comfort factor. Most of my tops still have a lot of room to fill out.
  • I'm 19 weeks and I have been showing since 12 weeks. I haven't yet gained any weight, started out as a size 16 and am 5'9".

  • Thanks ladies! I'm 21 weeks and patiently waiting to "pop"! I'm also down 12 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight but have just recently started to maintain that loss, meaning at my last appointment I didn't gain any back or loose any more!
  • I'm 21 weeks and I don't really feel like I'm showing much.  My belly is the same size as it's always been but now it's hard and not soft.  I can't really fit into regular clothes because my belly won't compress like it used to so I wear maternity clothes.  They help me look (and feel!) more pregnant :) but I don't expect to become noticeably pregnant until the holiday season is upon us.
  • With my first I started showing around 18 weeks. This time it was around 15 weeks where I could see it but others started noticing around 17/18 weeks.

  • I'm 20 weeks and last week I told a coworker I was pregnant and she seemed surprised...like she couldn't tell. I think I've been showing since mid September and my husband does too. I guess it depends on who you ask and if the person knows you. I was a size 10 back in April, gained 20 pounds prior to pregnancy and am a size 14-16 now that I've gained another 20 pounds. I do have a belly, but I have a much bigger thigh and butt difference now. Also, my belly isn't nice and round unless I'm wearing full panel maternity pants, it's still floppy lol.
  • People that knew me previously could tell I was pregnant but general strangers couldn't pretty much my entire pregnancy. I have popped more this time with her second baby and looking back at photos I guess I had a little bump but being plus size I just looked like a pluses woman with a bigger belly

  • I feel like wearing maternity shirts make me look pregnant. I have clothes from when I was a couple sizes bigger and have mostly worn those clothes and it really just makes me look like a bag lady. The maternity shirts made me feel like I looked the part, but I'm sure I just look fat to strangers!

  • I started as a size 20/22 so I had a lot of pudge hiding my bump for a long while. I didn't start really showing until about 18w. I can still hide it if I wear certain clothing, but I prefer to embrace my growing belly. It's so nice to not have to suck my gut in anymore!

I feel the same way!  I think that is why I am having such troubles with it is because I know my little peanut is there but I can't hide my belly the way I used too!  Maternity pants have made me feel better, I am just ready to show! lol
  • I think tonight I am going to take my weekly picture and compare to see if it makes me feel any better!  I am going to see my grandfather in two weeks and I want to be "showing" for that I guess because he means a lot to me!

Thanks for the input ladies!! :)

  • I'm 22 weeks with a "B" belly and I don't look pregnant at all. Tbh, I'm not sure if I will at all, which is kind of depressing. I'm still in my regular clothes, though, which is nice. And I certainly can tell the differences in my body, even if no one else can.

I just keep reminding myself that I'm healthy and the baby is healthy, and that's all that really matters.
  • I am almost 20 weeks with twins. Prepregnancy size was 22/24. My belly is past my boobs now (and I'm a DD) but it is a mixture of baby, fat, and the organs that the babies are moving. It feels harder than normal, but not baby bump hard. I've been in maternity pants for several weeks now, and the pickings are getting slim for non maternity shirts. I think it is noticeable but I am not sure because I have been out of work for 4 weeks now due to surgery.
  • I started as a size 16 and I've gained 6 pounds. My belly is definitely bigger, but I think most people probably just think I've been gaining weight.  I had to buy a bigger bra, and I've been in maternity pants for a while now because anything tight hurts my tummy.

I really hope I round out by the holidays.  Everybody wants the "pregnant lady" to come to their Christmas party, and I would hate to show up looking like I just got fat.

  • Depends on what I wear but my husband has noticed two real "pop" points about 16 weeks and now again at 21/22 weeks.

Started as a 16 am now 16/18 and either bella banding it or maternity wearing.   Up 10-11lbs atm. Though my boobs jumped up a cup within 8 weeks or so and thanks to bloat etc my 16's quit fitting but maternity didn't so I moved up to 18's until I could wear maternity.

I look pregnant in all but my underband maternity pants :/ since I have that squishy top layer it adds a weird line over my stomach that makes it seem more like a muffin top >.< but in my reg jeans w/bella band, full panel jeans or skirts, it's fairly obvious unless I make an attempt to layer and conceal.

I have a very short torso so everything has really already started being shoved up and I'm getting short of breath again with lots of heartburn.

With DD, I started looking pregnant and not just chubby around 22w.  This time, it was like 14w.  You can see in my siggy there was a bump there - I was 12.5w there.

Invest in some full panel maternity pants and don't be afraid to embrace snugger fitting shirt to show off the bump.  That helped me :)  I have a B belly too and never lost that with DD but certainly did look pregnant.  It'll happen - promise!

  • I'm a size 16/18 5'5". I had to start wearing maternity pants at the beginning of September and I'm about 50/50 with my regular shirts (my boobs have grown so a lot of my shirts aren't fitting appropriately anymore and/or they're too short to go all the way down). However, only people who know can tell. My hips have definitely changed and my belly is growing but I don't know if people are picking up that it's baby.

I've told my bosses and HR at work but haven't told my co-workers or clients yet. I actually felt really bad the other day because a friend who is due in Feb and started showing really early made a comment about how "I must be really good at hiding it". It just made me feel bad about myself because I'm not really trying, I think people just aren't picking up on it. I also haven't gained weight though so that may be contributing too.
