Wear Baby and Push a Single Stroller vs Buy a Double Stroller

Just wondering what other 2nd+ timers are doing. DD1 will be nearly three when DD2 arrives, but this girl LOVES her stroller. So there is no possible way she'll be giving it up by then. So now I'm trying to decide if I should just wear DD2 and continue pushing DD1 in her stroller or if I should get a stand and ride. I'm really leaning toward option B; although DH hates the idea of getting another stroller, since the Quinny Freestyle that we already have is still a really good stroller.

What's everyone else doing?

Re: Wear Baby and Push a Single Stroller vs Buy a Double Stroller

  • We are expecting baby #10. I got rid of the ridiculously heavy double stroller a looooong time ago. My kids are closer in age than yours, so having a stroller for the toddler is absolutely necessary. But we chose to go with two separate strollers, choosing a smaller lightweight stroller for the older child And one that our infant seat could snap into for the baby. Since that second stroller doesn't come with an extra set of hands (bummer!), I realize that might not work for you. I recommend baby wearing, but my advice is that sometimes you will want or need to put baby down. So will your DD1 give up her seat in the stroller for that?

  • I am having the same issue. I can't decide what to do. I really don't want to spend $$ on a double stroller. I plan on wearing baby often. I have also thought about buying a used double, or a stand that attaches to the current stroller we have, or just buy a cheap umbrella stroller for DS. But going that last route means I would always have to have another person with me when taking both kids out. I am really just being cheap about the whole thing.

  • This is the reason that we purchased the City Select.  We have the choice.  We can put both babies in the stroller OR we can wear one and the stroller easily becomes a single.  The best of both worlds!  yay!

  • I think I will try both and see how it goes.  We bot a BOB Duallie because I had been salivating over them for a long time.  The LOs will be 21 months apart.  I didn't really baby wear with DD, but I definitely see the need with this LO.  I'm getting a used Beco Butterfly 2 to try baby wearing with and I can still use our single stroller.  I tend to get lower back problems due to my enormous rack, so I'm not as hopeful about baby wearing.

  • I'm planning on buying a double. DSs will be 16 months apart on my due date, so we definitely will still be putting DS1 in a stroller. I'm planning on using it for when DS2 is a little bigger. They're so small the first couple months, its easy to have him in the wrap while pushing a stroller.

  • I am going with the City Select double. Ella will be 2yrs9mo when little sis arrives

I go for very long walks and I am hoping to get back into that relatively quickly so two girls in a stroller will be a must for me.

  • My daughter will be 2.5 years old when this baby is born. I got a double stroller...can't aways wear baby, what if you want to clothes shop and try things on lol? I have the double and a car seat caddy I will use when I am feeling daring enough to let my 2.5 year old roam free ;)

  • Mine will be 2y9m apart. I bought the glider board that attaches to our current stroller. DS rarely uses the stroller anymore, though.
  • I have twins that are turning 3 this weekend. They don't love the stroller but there are some places that I just can't trust them yet. So I have a double and a single. If I'm taking all 3 somewhere that I need everyone contained, I'll use the double and wear the baby. No way am I buying a triple stroller. Those things are monsters.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • DD will be 2 1/2 when DS arrives.  We are planning to baby wear and have DD in the stroller or for DS to go in the stroller with the car seat adapter and for DD to walk.  DD hates the stroller now, so we figured it is worth a try.  If we realize we need a double stroller, we'll get one then.  I do go on long walks several times a week, but I don't think we'll be doing any walking outside until March and I don't think I'll mind wearing DS when we take those walks.

  • I say wear baby and push toddler in stroller. From experience, a lot of hair pulling went on in our double stroller & I ended up always having to wear DS to avoid my DD being bald by age 2!
  • OMG they have one of those for DD's preschool

  • I'm going to do a combination.  DS will be almost 3 when DD is born, but he also still loves the stroller.  So I'm getting a double and will use that sometimes, or will put DS in the stroller and DD in the Beco if I'm somewhere that's easier to manage with just a single.  I'm getting a side-by-side double rather than a sit and stand because DS still needs to be contained, I'd worry about him seeing something shiny and trying to jump off a sit and stand lol!

  • I'm going to do both but I'm not always going to want to wear the baby. Plus if this baby is anything like DS and hates to be worn I'm screwed if I don't get a double stroller.

  • DD and upcoming DS will only be 8 months apart and we bit the bullet on the double stroller.  I hate lugging it around, but DD is a little furnace and wearing her all the time isn't a pleasurable thought. Just. Too. Hot.

  • Mind you, this was 10 yes ago, but mine were 15 mos apart. I bought (after carefully researching and purchasing) a very nice side by side double stroller. Wish I'd tried wearing BEFORE I bought the stroller. DD2 would rather be carried (baby Bjorn) and by the time she was bigger, DD1 no longer wanted a ride. Maybe wait a week or two before purchasing a double and if you or LO hates wearing, buy the double stroller. Or, just keep the receipt.
  • I would get a double stroller used on Craigslist. I nannied for a newborn and 21 month old so we definitely needed a double stroller because the 21 month old was still a while from being out of the stroller. I would baby wear but in the summer, it wasn't my favorite. Baby was a hotbox and it was a hot one that year.

  • I bought a used sit and stand. My son loves it already. I never got into baby wearing.
If we are out with two people I do have my nice graco stroller and umbrella if I decide to go that route.

  • When my 2nd son was born my older son was 3.5. We did a sit & stand and it worked really well.

  • Mine will be 18 months apart and we got a sit and stand from a consignment shop in excellent condition. That way I will have the option to baby wear and use our single nice Graco stroller or take the sit and stand so they can both ride. Since we were unsure we kept our eyes out for a good deal on a used one and found one.
  • DS currently likes the stroller for a minute, and then climbs out of the straps. I was planning to buy a double, but now I think we are going to wait and see how it goes. I will probably end up buying a double on craigslist, so if he doesn't use it for long I am not out all of the money I would have spent.

  • looking for a used double on craigslist, want to be able to go for runs ASAP and DD hated being worn...was thinking of a sit n stand too but not sure
  • We've bought carriers and will be buying a double stroller/double snap n go for different situations. DD1 is nearly 7, so it was an easy decision to make. We can both carry, or they can both be in the stroller, or a combo of both.
