Tips & Tricks for the newly busty

So you can finally pass the pencil test.... not as awesome as you imagined is it. Here are a few things I've learned in my years as a busty gal that I hope will help you.

1) Do NOT go to Victoria Secret for a bra. They only cary up to a 38DD, I've been a 36G for years & for laughs will have them measure me; 38DD every time. Head to Macys or Neiman Marcus & get an accurate fitting.

2) Yes, past a D cup an underwire bra is necessary. Trust me the back pain & boob pain isn't worth it.

3) Sleepy Bras; I know WTF is a sleepy bra? It's a cheap sports bra from Walmart & alike that you wear to bed. They flop, they move & unless properly restrained the can make sleeping uncomfortable.

4) Pat dry. Yes, your under boob area needs some new special attention, proper drying will eliminate rashes & potential yeast infections.

5) Attack of The Sweaty Boobs. Never knew your boobs sweat so much did you? It happens to ALL of us. I use deodorant under & down the middle, some ladies swear by baby powder or corn starch, you'll find what works best for you.

6) Big boob bras are EXPENSIVE. Don't go crazy buying bras, once you know your size hunt the clearance racks & sales as your size may change through pregnancy & post partum.

Hope this helps a little bit for your new not so little boobs.

  • Now if only i could get recs for bras larger than an H cup... Busying out of my 40H and will need something larger after i start producing milk for sure.
  • @nungongju‌ you probably already know what brands fit best so I'd certainly check out FigLeaves.com
  • Pre-prego I was a 34DD and I thought the boob sweat sucked... Now it's even worse. I stuff my bra not to look bigger but rather to separate the girls. Oooh and running/walking swiftly without a supportive bra is excruciating. #bigboobproblems
  • This is helpful!  Just bought new bras this weekend, I'm officially up from my normal 36B to 36C, and it's definitely strange.  Who knew boobs were so annoying when you're trying to sleep!?

    DH is thrilled of course...lol

Boob sweat sucks. I used to just get it in the summer, but now it is just about a daily occurrence.

  • I'm in the same boat as @starshollow‌ @ChanStew‌ and @AMShark‌. I'm finally being promoted from the Itty Bitty Titty Committee and I'm excited about it as of now. They haven't grown that much yet, mainly just gotten fuller but I'm sure they will soon enough. I really appreciate all the tips @Ginja85! :D
  • I'm still a card carrying member of the itty bitty committee. I can tell a difference for sure, but I doubt anyone other than DH could. I was actually looking forward to a few month of big girls but this is looking like it will be a slow grow.

Ok, since we are on the topic of boobs. I'm a pre-pregnancy itty bitty committee member. Now not so much. Any tips for the shower? Water hurts when hitting the girls. It may be because I take a shower in the morning after not being supported all night. Must get a sleepy bra! I was wondering though if there were any tips for the shower. Considered buying a cheap bra and showering with it on...I know it is only going to get worse.

My boobs hate the shower stabs, too. I usually try to keep one arm covering them or keep them out of the spray. And I don't use soap on them, I just rinse with water. It's not perfect, but it helps.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm normally a 32a and I'm still wearing the same bra, except now I fully fill it out and have a little bit of cleavage. I should probably move up to a B though as my bras are starting to get uncomfortable.

  • Went up from the reasonable-to-find-cheaply 34D to a 34DD, of which my last trip to target yielded one bra. Anyone have suggestions for where to buy cheap underwire temp bras?

  • As for the boob sweat, wait until you start nursing! My boobs got so hot they would sweat all the time. It was horrible. Plus you are always cuddling a warm baby and your metabolism is through the roof, so you're just hot. I smelled so bad and never had time to shower. My husband was pretty amazed that I could smell that bad.

  • @scaggsed‌ try on a 36D its the sister size to a 34DD

  • (sorry if this double posted - something weird is going on with my browser)

I'm so happy to finally have cleavage! It's like, I'm a grown woman now!!! ;) I won't complain anymore, though, that I'm one of the tiny ones... after hearing all the boob stories, better too small than too big, or so it sounds!

  • My just barely 34A before pregnancy self does not know how to handle actually having cleavage. I'm probably still like a B but it seems like a massive difference. I've been putting off buying a new bra because I'm just too lazy but this is getting a bit ridiculous.

elomi, and anita are my favorite brands for 40G and up.  I nursed my first 2 kids as a 42/44 H-J.

Elomi makes great big bust nursing bras.

Also - I would wear a no-wire anita bra and just drop the girls out the bottom for nursing/pumping too.

sometimes the band/cup proportions don't work with all underwires - I had to go no-wire for a while to be comfortable.

  • @CivilMommy you Ma'am, are awesome!! Thank you, i will look into them! :D
  • Awesome advice! For us smaller girls, Camis! Camis help cover the cleavage we've never had... I teach junior high kids and realized I had rockin cleavage and can't bend down to younger kids heights. - along with learning new ways to move my arms. After working at vs for 5 years, I'm loving the boobs!
  • I could just hug you right now! I don't even know what to do with these big ol boobies! So THANK YOUUU! I didn't even think about a sleep bra but now that you mention it...it sounds heavenly :)
  • I am usually a 36DD and now am pushing a 36G. Super depressed and have a long way to go still. I've already dropped some cash one one good everyday bra and one good sports bra for exercising. It's been embarrassing with the bouncing and the cleav.

I got fitted at a nice lingerie store but bought the bras on Bare Necessities website. I haven't bought nursing bras yet BC I have no idea how much larger I'm going to get. :(
  • WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THE CLEAVAGE ITCH?!

I used to be a 32A pre-pregnancy and am now popping out of the 34B bras I had from my high school years of denial about my size. Its really great, I truly love it. BUT my cleavage has been itching sooooooo badly. Its not sweaty, just really really really itchy.
  • I'm confused about the Victoria secrect saying they only measure to a 38DD..my MIL is an F or a G and she gets accurate measurements at VS.
  • @KylesBride‌ I'm concerned about how big my girls will get as well. It is completely normal to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed about our changing bodies, we're women these things take a toll on us. I've found cami tank tops under my shirts help me maintain more modesty when i want.

If you maintain a larger cup size postpartum I highly suggest the Enell high impact sports bra for working out. Before I found Enell I wore 3 bras to the gym; 1 underwire & 2 sports bras, still had serious bounce. It's pricey but, worth every penny.
  • @waitingforbabylove‌ your skin is stretching, drink more water and moisturize after you shower
  • @kier23‌ its awesome that she can get an accurate fitting from VS, this has never been my experience nor the experience of any busty friends. I posted my "personal experience advice" hence my aversion to VS for deceptive sales tactics by giving false measurements to gain sales.
  • I agree with VS. They just do not carry large sizes. They will say you are their largest and when you try it on you are spilling out the top and bottom. It's silly. Nordstrom is my go to place for fittings. I'm usually a 36G and have easily increased to a 38I/J already at just 16 weeks. I got new bras at 6 weeks and again at 13 weeks. At that point I wised up and did one band and cup size larger than I measured and also bought an expander to give me a little more room. It's helped a lot. I'm starting to fill out the cup but haven't had to move further out than the tightest band. Once I loosen up the band that'll give me a little more room in the cup as will the expander a few weeks after that. I did invest in a really good sports bra that had room in the cup as well as some wiggle room in the band. It lasted me from week 6 until now. It's getting pretty snug now. This is all AFTER had a breast reduction in 1997. I have magic boobs I guess. They grew back!! I'm a little nervousness about how big they will be getting but hopefully not too much bigger. I'm hoping that I can get away with just 1 or 2 more bra investments. Cheap and larger size bras do not go hand in hand. You really need to invest. Otherwise you will not get the support you need and you will have a lot of back, shoulder, and boob pain. Spend a little bit of money and get a supportive and full coverage bra. I know the Demi cups are cute. They are sexy. They will not last you as your tatas keep growing! Go to a real bras shop/department not a lingerie store like VS. Think Intimacy, Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, or Macy's (though I've never had luck there). Make sure they have a good return policy. Nordstrom will take anything back at any time for any reason--doesn't fit in a month--take it back. They will exchange it. They are awesome that way. The place a 13 year old gets her bras probably isn't going to get them for your big girls.
