Would you ever use a baby harness? For those confused, I mean something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B7M7BL6/ref=twister_B00BVZOXC4

I have never liked these.  My girlfriend used one for her daughter and to me it just felt wrong....  Everyone has a different way of doing things, but I personally would not.

  • It's obviously too early to tell what I'll end up doing, but I'm open to it. If I've got a LO who doesn't love the stroller and wants to walk, I need to make sure he's safe. If that means leashing him, that's what we'll do, especially in a crowded situation (or if LO2 comes along and I need my hands for that child).

  • I think it's something we'd consider. We're already having trouble convincing him to use the stroller. He's tolerating a carrier, and loves being 'a backpack' although we haven't taken him out in public that way yet. But if a harness or little backpack is what I need to do to keep him safe I'll do it. I don't think it's infringing on his civil liberties or anything

Last October (2013) my 70 y.o. mom had flown up from FL to visit.  My sister, mom and I went with my 2 nieces (then 2.5 & 5) to a outdoor outlet mall for Columbus Day weekend (busy - trafficky).  The younger niece loves to run, and run and run.  Well she started running - towards the road/parking lot.  My mom tried to catch her and fell face first into the corner of one of the brick columns holding up the roof.  My mom wrenched her knee (swollen & bruised - ended up with a visit to an ortho doc) and had an awful contusion on her forehead (we're lucky it wasn't worse).

This was the second time my youngest niece had run off into a crowd, the other time was in August at Canobie Lake Park and thankfully DH was able to catch up to her (she'd gone off after bubbles).

In those circumstances, I wish my niece had been leashed.

I don't know what I'll think about leashing babyG - of course he's going to be a perfect sweet angel child and listen to mommy when she says to stay by her side and never stray/run....

eta: spelling (why can't I ever spell niece right the first time...)

  • At this point I don't plan to use one, but I don't see the harm in people using them in busy places.  I think most kid leashes now are the backpack variety.

  • I don't love them, but there have been many times I've wished I had one.

I first thought, maybe in a crowded place, but then I thought how hard it may be to have a leash cutting in and out of crowds. It may get tangle around some one or get pulled/tugged by accident.
So I probably would not use one.

I agree with the leash being difficult in crowded places.

I'm not a big fan and would never use one for DS but that's because he isn't a runner. If DD turns out to be a runner then I'd probably consider it.

Off topic- Having just gone to Disneyland, there is no way I wouldn't bring a stroller. It would be hard to carry your kid everywhere even if they want to walk some of the time. DS generally isn't a fan of the stroller but he needed and asked for it at Disneyland. Sooo much walking!

@iwubrory Good to know, since I'm going there in a couple weeks. We just have LO, and I guess I'll bring the Ergo and stroller. I've never been to Disney before. Any other tips?

  • i am definitely for them. when i worked at the boys and girls club we had a little boy who went there and one weekend he ran off into the target parking lot and almost got hit by a car. luckily the driver was able to veer and hit the breaks. but it rattled me when his dad told us what happened. and it happens so quickly. i think ill have one around incase LO is a runner. or even for when were in a busy place and he wants a bit of independence w/o holding my or the bf's hand.

also I've seen too many episodes of svu and the the thought of LO holding my hand and then letting go and grabbing it again, only for it to be someone else hand scares the crap out of me. i want to know that i won't get separated from him.
