TTC After a Loss

Re-Intro, 3rd loss & loss of tube (2 living children) :(

Had to have emergency surgery on 10/12/14. This was my first tubal pregnancy. I had a miscarriage in March 2007, then gave birth to my full-term still born son in February 2008. We've had two healthy boys, both born in May... 2009 & 2011. We had been planning on starting to try for our 4th baby back in January. We officially started trying last month and got pregnant on the first try. I started spotting on 10/8, had excruciating pain on 10/11 and had surgery on 10/12.

I feel numb. We don't know for sure if my right tube is any good because I have a lot of scarred tissue from my previous C-sections (3), which dr states might have been the reason for the loss of this pregnancy. Drs will run an HSG on my right tube sometime, but I'm not sure if I want to go through that. This whole experience was so scary to me. I would love to have another baby but I don't want to have to go through this again :(

Has anyone else lost one of their tubes?? Any advice? Please & thank you.

Please put a "living children mentioned" warning in your title. I was a little caught off guard by the mention of your boys, and I'm sure others will be too.

I also experienced an ectopic pregnancy and went through surgery, so I understand what a physically and emotionally difficult experience it can be. The doctor kept my tube, but then I found out a year later, when I had my HSG, that the tube is blocked. At this point, I wish she would've just removed the tube during my surgery so that I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not it's completely blocked.

The HSG was no fun, but I'd really suggest you go forward with it once you're completely healed so that you know if your other tube is functioning properly.

I'm so sorry for your losses.

ETA: Thank you for editing your title so quickly. :)

  • I definitely echo @BethKate2‌ 's advice. Go through with the HSG, it's really not a terrible procedure and will give you the information you need to go forward with. I lost my right tube to an ectopic pregnancy/emergency surgery, and later had an HSG to check if the other tube was clear, I definitely wanted to make sure it was safe to TTC once again.  If you do plan to TTC again, you need to know exactly what you're dealing with in there.  You wouldn't want to go blindly back into TTC only to find your tube is blocked and you're in the middle of another ectopic situation.  If your remaining tube ends up clear, you could go ahead back to TTC with confidence.  If it's blocked, you'd know that you shouldn't TTC naturally and would need to seek further treatment in order to stay safe.
