Eleanor was born on 10/10 weighing 8 lbs, 6 oz and measuring 21 inches. My labor and delivery experience was so much different. With DD1 I had my membranes stripped at 40 weeks and it broke my water. I then received pitocin, had and epidural, pushed for 45 minutes and they used the vacuum to get her out when her heart rate started dropping. She was born about 20 hours after my water broke.
This time I started feeling some period like cramping. Almost like an achy cervix feeling at 11 PM. I have had that feeling during my pregnancy before but this time it was coming and going instead of just generally feeling achy. It didn't feel like a tightening of my uterus like I remembered from DD1's birth so I wasn't sure what was happening but decided to time it and it was happening about 5 minutes apart lasting about 40 seconds. At 11:15 I called DH from downstairs to describe what was happening and decided to take a shower in case it was labor. Once in the shower the cramping became more painful and I had to lean over during the contractions. I got out of the shower around 11:25 and called and left a message for the doctor and told DH that I think it's time to have the baby. We finished gathering our stuff and woke DD up to bring her to my IL's house. By that time contractions were coming quicker. They started at about 4 minutes apart in the car and increased to about 3 minutes. It was around 12 when we dropped her off and we got to the hospital around 12:30. I was stuck in the hospital waiting area with contractions about 3 minutes apart for about 20 minutes. It was terrible. I was walking around and leaning against the wall for each contraction. The hospital was so slow and they will be getting a very detailed and critical patient satisfaction survey. It was another 15 minutes in the room before someone checked me and I was 6-7 cm. What happened next was slightly a blur but things moved quickly and the hospital moved slowly and there wasn't time for an epidural. I refused narcotics because I knew she was coming soon and I knew that wasn't good for her. I was in the room alone with DH and could feel my body start to push so I sent DH to get the nurse. She came and I was fully dilated and she kept telling me not to push because the doctor wasn't here. She was telling DH to get gloves and I am pretty sure I heard them calling in the hall for any doctor or midwife. The doctor on call for my practice came in and about 4 pushes later and she was out at 2:28 AM.
I lost a lot of blood and had some issues after and then ended up with a stomach bug the next day which has kept me in the hospital longer than expected, but Eleanor is doing great. Looks like I get to go home today.

Re: Eleanor Ivy is here
It's funny how different your labor can be with your second. We similarly were hanging out with administrative stuff for a bit, so by the time we got into a room, it was fast. I definitely preferred it to the vacuum delivery with Isa though.
wow! glad things went more rapidly this time! Congratulations!
Congratulations on another beautiful baby!!!
We Made A Wish....
And You Came True!
DD already tried to blame a poopy diaper on her sister which is funny. She gets excited about her sister but there is some jealousy and she is having more tantrums and doesn't want to be dropped off at daycare. I think part of it was being away from us while I was in the hospital. Yesterday, I was holding Eleanor and she pointed at the bassinet and said "Eleanor sleep" so I asked her if she wanted me to let daddy hold Eleanor so I can play with her and she said yes. It's emotionally hard now but I know they will be best of friends eventually.
It always annoys me when I hear that a mom was told not to push by the nurse bc the dr isn't there...um...hello?! That's a pretty uncontrollable urge. And they are trained to catch the baby. I think a better thing for them to say would be, "I'm getting the Dr now, try not to push if you can help it" but that's just me.
Glad she's here safe and healthy :-)
