Initial Rinse Temperature Poll!

What is your preferred initial rinse cycle temperature? I have tried both cold and warm (followed by a hot wash with 2T. of powdered Tide) and both temperature rinse cycles have worked well, so I am just curious! Add comments if there is a reason you like one more than the other.

Re: Initial Rinse Temperature Poll!

  • I do a warm quick wash, rather than rinse. It just works best here.

  • Loading the player...
  • cold in the summer
warm in the winter (because the cold would be too cold)

And yes....I've gone back to an initial rinse because the diapers were getting stinky.
  • I actually have no clue, my washer selects it for me and we haven't had issues so don't mess with it.

  • I followed Maple's lead and started doing a longer pre wash cycle, and I feel like my diapers are getting cleaner. I do warm now but could probably go back to cold without problems.

  • I started with a cold soak and spin when I had soft water, but when I moved and won the hard water lottery, I found that a quick warm wash with Calgon worked a lot better.
  • I've actually been doing a short hot wash as my initial rinse/spin, then a hot wash with detergent, and sometimes my second rinse at the end is another short hot wash, vs a warm rinse. I use the stay dry (microfiber) BB inserts and TTs. After we had our ammonia incident, I'm making sure I get those suckers cleaned and rinsed well!

  • I have a coin operated laundry so my initial rinse is actually a full 30 minute wash/rinse/spin cycle without detergent. Like I said in my OP, I have alternated between cold and warm for this first cycle and both have worked well. I add the detergent for the next 30 minute wash/spin/rinse cycle which is always done on hot. Thanks for all the responses! I love learning about what works best for different people...it helped me so much in the beginning figuring out how to tweak my wash routine.

  • When I machine wash I do a cold pre-wash then a hot wash and when I handwash I do a cold soak/wring/dump water then a warm soak/agitate/wring/dump water, then hot wash. I found it easier when handwashing to do the double pre-wash rinses, I think it gets more off and rinses lose bits off better......and they soak the first round for about 30-45 minutes aka the length of time it takes for me to drop off ds1 at school and get back to the diapers.

  • I haven't had to wash in cold weather yet, but I do a cold wash first. Our water here is very, very mildly hard, so I don't add any softening agents.

  • Quick warm wash.

  • Or, I guess it'd be warm "Quick wash".  Meh.

  • I do a warm prewash that has an agitation, long soak, drain, full tub rinse, drain, and spin.

This is my start too. I love the prewash setting. I've also started forgoing the built in "extra rinse" option on my machine because rinses are cold. I do another prewash at the end on warm, I've heard it rinses out better.
