Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone dealing with exhaustion?

I know it is completely normal to be tired but this is ridiculous! I could literally sleep for days. I am so tired. I have never been this tired in my life. With the exception of my loss earlier this year all of my other pregnancies were in my early twenties and I was never this tired. Now that I am in my late thirties I know I move a little slower, but wow this is nuts. Anyone else having this problem? Of just utter exhaustion? I do have hypothyroidism and it was checked the day I found out I was pregnant(it is actually the reason I went for blood work and inadvertently found out we were expecting again).

Anyone who has dealt with this have any ideas for getting a little energy? I am avoiding all caffeine and any added sugar. I am thankful for the myriad of pregnancy symptoms I am experiencing now that I never experienced before but need to be moving more.

Re: Anyone dealing with exhaustion?

  • For several days before I got my BFP I was EXHAUSTED!!! Like sleeping 12+ hours at a time.  I just started getting really tired again, but this time, I'm also coming down with a cold so I don't know if it's pg related.  It's normal - all pregnancies are different, but tiredness is normal :D  Just enjoy the rest!! haha

  • How far along are you?  I'm 39 and I was EXHAUSTED in the first trimester - I fell asleep one night while looking through the channel guide on the tv (which DH thought was absolutely hysterical btw).  I promise it gets better.

I remember in the beginning - middle of second trimester my BFF saying "Wow, you just look amazing these days - you looked so tired before."

Just try to get as much rest as you can and take advantage of any help offered.  I took a day or two off from work during the first trimester just to relax.

  • Thanks ladies! I will be 7 weeks tomorrow. Cannot wait until I have some energy again! lol
  • I'm 9 weeks and exhausted too! With my son the exhaustion and naseau disappeared around 13 weeks and I was like the Enegizer bunny! I had so much energy until about 6 weeks before I delivered. Hopefully it will get better!!
  • Omg, I thought it was just me! I sleep 10 hrs but have to take naps around 3 each day others I'm ready for bed at 9!
  • I was completely exhausted (and had a terrible cold) weeks 4-5, and now in week 6 and I still get around 10 hours of sleep, but I'm not as tired. I feel like my body is adjusting to the hormones, I'm getting more sleep, and I'm staying super hydrated.

  • Exhausted seems like an understatement sometimes LOL I never really took naps, but now on the days I'm home w/ DS I take a nap when he does and sometimes again when MH gets home. Today was better...but I'm starting to crash now. I wish I had tips to help, but I got nothing :(

  • Sorry you're dealing with this. I think it's very common in the first trimester. Unfortunately it hasn't stopped for me at 15+5. I finally gave up and increased my caffeine dose because I was so far behind at work. My usual tricks--lots of sleep, taking a nap if possible, and sitting by my happy light--just weren't cutting it.

  • Well I feel much better knowing it is not just me! I keep telling myself that my body is just working extra hard this time so its all good. Will have the doc check my thyroid again tomorrow just to be sure it is still up to par.

I also had my doc check my iron - I was low, so I got put on a different supplement.

  • Oh yeah, you're definitely not alone. I got 8 hours of sleep last night and I feel like I could pass out right here. I typically get 9-10. I'm hoping I can squeeze a nap in today...

  • YES, I am so sleepy. Like I've been sedated. my doc said I can add b vitamins, hope that helps.

I read that walk, naps, small protein snacks every few hours, & lots of water can even you out a little.

My heart is as open as the sky.

  • I've been exhausted this entire pregnancy. First tri was brutal. I could barely keep my eyes open. Second tri got a tiny bit better, but still really tired. Now that I'm in the third tri, I feel like I'm in the first tri all over again. I get tired just walking around the house. This baby is loves to suck my energy!
