June 2014 Moms

~*Born to Run Junebugs 10/27*~

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays . All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

How were your runs and workouts this week?

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set?

GTKY: What is your plan for staying on track during the holiday season?

How were your runs and workouts this week?  Well, during the week I failed miserably. But this weekend I got in a great short run on Saturday (5k) and my first official post-baby race on Sunday (10 miler). I was really happy with how I did on Sunday and I ended up averaging about 15 seconds/mile faster than I'd planned for, which was a nice surprise. It felt good being in the whole race atmosphere again. I'd missed it!

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set? I am still running (mostly) consistently, and gearing up for my half marathon in two weeks. I am kind of looking forward to that race being over with so I can move my focus more toward strength training and using running as an ancillary part of my regimen for a few months.

GTKY: What is your plan for staying on track during the holiday season? This is tough. We are not snackers at home and I cook very healthy for the most part, but the temptation is always present at work and it's easy to get lazy about running during the colder months (except I have a treadmill at home so I really have no excuse). DH and I will be running a Turkey Trot together on Thanksgiving Day, so at least I have something small to look forward to and keep mindful of when I'm stuffing my face with cookies and pie and brownies and... ;)

  • How were your runs and workouts this week? I did ok, we ran 4 times including a "5k" (its a bit shorter than that).  It was a color run benefiting the school district DH works for, so it was really fun.  There was a huge hill and I felt like I was gonna barf.  I really should have eaten before, but with getting the kid and myself ready it just didn't happen.

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set? I'm just happy to get a few runs in every week!!!

No plan... as for food- I'm still bfing, so I'll just go with it and accept the consequences!! and running-- fit it in when I can, stuff gets busy but I know I'm a better me when I can get a few runs in every week!

Pedi gave me the green light to run with LO on flat surfaces with the jogging stroller only! DH isn't as ready to try it as I am, maybe I can convince him tonight.  I'll push and he can watch her to see that she's not bouncing.
  • @sjdihle My DH put Stella in the BOB over the weekend just to see how well she could sit up in it. I will be asking my pedi about this tomorrow as well!

  • I didn't run this week and I feel like a great big loser! I'm so impressed with you ladies!!! Keep up the good work :)
  • I ran for the second time since DS was born over the weekend. My legs felt great, but my endurance was horrible! Just getting out there was a huge win for me, even though it was nothing like I was used to doing pre baby.

@babygabe614 and @sjdihle- I would be interested to know how it goes with the BOB. I have been putting DS in the regular seat (with a headrest) for a while now for walks, but I am still nervous to run with it. It would make it so much easier for me to be able to go out on runs if I could take him with me!

  • How were your runs and workouts this week?  I finally made it back in my crossfit gym last week for a WOD. Ahhhh! It felt so good! DS sat in his car seat the entire time being so good up until my last 2 rounds of the WOD. Coach grabbed him for me and walked around with him while cheering everyone on. It was a huge help. I was sore for 3 days after having not done that many sit ups and kettle bell swings. Ran a mile as part of the workout as well and felt good. That was my only workout unfortunately. Hoping to get downstairs to the work gym this afternoon for 20 minutes of running.

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set? Sucking!! Can't seem to workout more than once a week. Got my eating habits under control for the most part, despite Halloween coming up, so I'm happy on that at least. Going to get extra focused come Saturday though and really work to drop 10+ pounds next month.

GTKY: What is your plan for staying on track during the holiday season? Don't buy any sweets! LOL! Having my cookie exchange early in December so I can get that out of the way and not distract me the rest of the month. Hoping to start getting up early to work out with the time change coming. Might have to accept the fact that 5am is the only time I can get a workout in consistently. Ugh! Not looking forward to it though. Aiming to lose another 10 lbs in Dec and be back at pre-baby weight by Jan. 1st.

I managed to get in three runs this week.  I was shooting for me but the four month sleep regression finally hit our house so yeah....  I did my first 5k this week since baby and wasn't unhappy with the time.  I have one on deck for tonight.  Should have done it Sunday but opted for a nice cleansing hot yoga class instead (FYI: yogi push ups are effing hard the first time you hit yoga pp.)

How do you feel you are doing with accomplishing any fitness goals you have set?

I am going to come up short about 4 miles from my goal for the month but I am still calling this a win.  This is the most mileage I have put in for a month stretch since I was six months prego.

I usually just stayed on schedule during the holidays and that was enough.  Baby boy complicates that plan.  I have cut off the junk food at my office by not eating out at work and informing my co-workers to not even bring the junk in my office.  That has been helping.  We will see how that goes as cookie season ensues.

I am interested in what your peds say about the jogging stroller.  Little man has great head and neck control but I am super nervous about running.  I am slow so I am wondering if that makes a difference?  Can't wait to hear what your peds are saying.
  • @frenchchocolate611 do you ever take him out in the BOB in the carseat (if you have the attachment)? I run on flat surfaces that way pretty often and have never had any issues. I'd never take her on a trail like that but going to a track or a flat, paved path has worked out fine.

I have - he does ok for a few minutes but I think he just hates being confined in the seat that way. I haven't put him in that way for a while thought - I should try again!
