The room with the TV is extremely not baby proofed so she rarely watches and I've never put on something just for her because I would need to be in the room to make sure she's not killing herself. If on the weekend DH and I are watching something when she wakes up from her nap I'll bring her into our bed so we can finish the show. Sat night she might watch hockey with us for 30-40 min before bed time.

  • I would say 5+ for us. I know she watches at MIL because she sends me pictures of her watching it, and the TV is on when I pick her up from daycare too, but usually DD is in a different room than the TV.  I also put it on when I am cooking, and sometimes leave it on for background noise.  But we do also go outdoors a lot and she only really sits down for certain movies to watch.

  • It's on in the background.  I'm not sure she really even watches it, but she does here and there.

  • She watches a bubble guppies or doc mcstuffin episode before bedtime and sometimes watches a video in the car. I'm not worried. I know when I travel for work, she watches more with H which annoys mebut can't do anything about it

  • She will watch about 30 minutes of Sesame Street or Daniel Tiger while she eats breakfast. We don't take naps in this house anymore so I enjoy my quiet coffee time in the morning.

  • He is not really interested- but the tv is often on. If he actually starts paying attention, I shut it off. The only thing he actually watches is the hot dog song on Micky mouse clubhouse... Over and over and over and over....

  • Sometimes I wish she would watch TV, but she'd rather run around like a lunatic
This. He doesn't care about TV, even when I try and use it as a distraction or treat to get him out of my hair. It's really frustrating, but it's been a "no screen time before 16 months" by default in our house. The only part he likes is dancing to whatever theme song there is at the beginning and the end of a kids show. He is quite into shaking his rump.

  • I have the tv on the disney channel when I'm making lunch and dinner but my kids don't watch it. They run around and play with their toys, play-doh, etc.

  • I said 1-5 hrs a week, but I don't know how much of that is real watching. I turn on Super Why or Sesame Street first thing in the morning so I have a chance to pee, feed the dogs and get breakfast together without her going crazy. It buys me about 5 min before she is standing on the couch and yelling for her food. I have a few episodes saved on the DVR because the theme songs entertain her briefly and I will leave it on if I'm trying to get something done (vacuuming, laundry, etc) so that there is at least a chance she'll get distracted by the TV instead of following me and climbing into the washing machine.

  • We're mostly restricting screen time.  The only exception is when LO is super fussy or I need to cut his nails - then I have him watch videos of himself.  That's the only thing he's shown any affinity for watching.

  • He loves tv. We have to limit him or else he'd fixate on it for hours if we'd let him. I said 5+ but it's mostly on the weekends. Maybe 30 minutes at most on weekday.

His real obsession is big block sing song on YouTube. When ever we can't get him out of a funk or need 10 minutes of uninterrupted silence, we put it on.

  • I wish she would watch TV. She shows an interest in it for about 30 seconds and then looks away bored. She loves music so I need to find a show that does nothing but sing. If there is a talking break, she will not pay attention.

About 2 or 3 times a week we'll turn on Curious George if she's being super whiny.  Most often when I'm trying to cook.  But she only watches 10 minutes or so and then is bored.

I go back and forth between wanting her to be more interested in the TV, so that I could use it when I needed to do something or when she's whiny, and wanting to restrict screen time.  I've decided I'm ok with about an hour or less a week so we only turn it on when we really need it.

ETA: I think it'd be different if I didn't work and she wasn't at daycare.  I'm sure she would probably watch more then, out of necessity.

  • SS: We sometimes watch a little bit of our shows when he is around now (like 15-20 min. shortly before his bedtime) but he usually ignores it and plays with his toys. We don't let him watch kid programs, but I know he would like them because I have caught him staring at it at relatives' houses who had them on. We also show him YouTube clips once or twice a week of Disney rides and character meet and greets to get him ready for our trip later this month. He likes those.
