  I got it when I was pregnant, but somehow in the confusion at the hospital I ended up getting it again. It is really important to have this vaccine to help protect your child. I had the grandparents and DH get the shot as well. Side effects I noticed- mild sore arm for a day.

  I got it and the flu shot at the same time in the hospital. Like PP said, only side effect was mild soreness and bruising at the site for a day or two.

  This shot shouldn't really be an "option" as babies die from whooping cough when people don't get vaccinated. You have to remember, their little bodies don't have strong immune systems like we do as adults, and any sickness can send them to the NICU fighting for their life.

  You should check in you area if you can get it. The only place that I could it when I was pregnant wouldn't give it to me bc I had a DTap 2 yrs earlier.

  I had the Tdap twice within a year.  My OB's office new that I had it less than a year prior and wanted me to get it again during my third trimester anyway.  (I can't remember the rules for Dtap since that's a different vaccine.)
  
  You should get the Tdap with every pregnancy, or you should have gotten it with two years if you plan on being around newborns and LOs.  The pertussis part of the vaccine kind of wears off quicker than the other components, and it is the part that you need to worry about the most.
  
  I'd definitely get it, but be prepared for a sore arm for a few days.
