Re: Pumpkin carving - do you?

  • We just started this last year when DD was 2.5 yo. She loved "helping." This year we carved two and she painted a small one.

We tried to get DS1 to help. He will be 2 yo next month. He wouldn't even touch the pumpkin.
DH was trying to get him to scoop the guts. That was always a highlight for me as a kid.
Maybe next year he will be interested.

  • You left out an "I'll buy a pumpkin or two for the porch but am too lazy to carve them" option.

    Darn it all.
I knew there was something I missed.

  • We just carved ours today! We both got one then a smaller one for DD. She loved rolling it over.

  • I'm somewhere between the first two
Options. I'm obsessed with pumpkins, and I love to buy them!! Not in love with carving them, but I do.

  • @LakeCountryGal‌
My dad's birthday is Halloween too.
We used to eat a slightly early supper, do out ToTing, then get home early enough for cake and ice cream before bed.
Also, my parents always told our neighbour's when we would be home so their kids could come over and get their treats, as well as have cake with us if they wanted.
It was always a busy night, and seemed a little extra special because it was my dad's birthday.

  • I voted just want the answers. My birthday falls on Halloween so DH and I have celebrated that instead of Halloween, I'm not sure what we will do this year with DS. We talked about taking this year as the last year of my birthday and starting Halloween traditions with DS next year when he's 1.

Why can't you do both? Still carve pumpkins and stuff, but also have a b-day cake and celebration?
OMG yeah. My BF's BD is November 1. We celebrated the night before. We would dress up every year. Best parties ever. Such a great time

  • We don't carve them. Not because we don't celebrate Halloween but because I just like to use my pumpkins as decorations through November. When DD gets older we will carve some .

  • @LakeCountryGal‌ my FIL 's bday is the 27th and we celebrate Halloween and his bday on the same night.

DH had three little sisters so every year we go over to carve pumpkins with them. They are older now and help out more but it's still fun. They each get a pumpkin and now this year LO will "help"/ look cute in her pumpkin outfit.

But I get the wanting to celebrate your bday without Halloween. Mine always got trampled by Mother's Day lol. For the big number bdays for FIL we go out for dinner.
  • Usually we do but this year I just let DS1 decorate them all with stickers. Much easier clean up :) Bonus, the stickers were glittery and look pretty cool.

  • I watch my husband carve one or two pumpkins. Then he bakes the seeds and I eat them. I'm lazy.

We did too. So good! I always remember my mom making them and this was the first year I could convince DH to carve pumpkins and toast the seeds.

  • Okay, come on.
    Who does the Hulk-smash?
  • We did as kids, Hubs and I don't now, but we will when LO is older. At Thanksgiving, I take the seeds out for roasting. A tradition I will also pass onto my kids.
  • "no because it looks like a blind 3 year old carved it if I try"

Who in their right mind gives a 3 year old a knife?!?!
    [-X
  • You left out an "I'll buy a pumpkin or two for the porch but am too lazy to carve them" option.
That is totally the one I was looking for!
