Travel System Recommendations

Hi ladies! New here! I'm due 2/5 with a baby girl :)

We haven't bought anything yet and our shower will be in January. My head is spinning with all of these stroller and car seats available. I know that Britax and Chicco seem to be popular choices, but they seem a little too expensive for hubby's taste. Does anyone have any advice or can list Pros/Cons of the following Graco items?!

Classic Connect 30 car seat
Click Connect 30 (or 35) car seat

^I think they weigh the same. I have a 2012 Corolla and am concerned the 35 might be too big for my car? Also, I read that the Classic Connect you have to rethread straps from behind the seat?

FastAction Fold vs. FastAction Fold Sport?

^I heard the tires on the sport need to be filled up? And the seat on the regular FastAction Fold slants downwards a little, making it seem uncomfortable for toddler.

Eek. I thought I had a travel system in mind and was ready to purchase. Now I just don't know.
Any other suggestions would be great!

Re: Travel System Recommendations

  • I have this system : https://www.gracobaby.com/products/pages/fastaction-fold-click-connect-travel-system-happy-hedgehog.aspx

We had no issues with it. The stroller is durable and does fold and open easily. The car seat fit well in my 2 door civic, so I guarentee it's fine in your corolla. We didn't make it to 30 lbs though. Our son outgrew the HEIGHT requirements at 9 months (i think that is pretty common too). After that we switched to a britax Boulevard convertable since he'll have it forever we spent a bit more.

    good luck and welcome!

  • I wouldn't invest in a travel system. The strollers are big and bulky. I literally used mine ZERO times. I would try and save on other items and go for the Chicco infant carrier (you will only need one base with this seat because it is so easy to move from car to car). Then for a stroller, you could do the Liteway Plus and you wouldn't need to buy another stroller again. Or a more affordable option is the Keyfit Caddy. HTH!

  • I don't have experience with the Graco systems but we received the Britax travel system as a shower gift from my parents and I think it is great despite the fact that we hardly used the stroller until recently!  The car seat is great (we are using it for this LO as well since it's only 2 years old) and the stroller is really nice.  Even though I usually baby wear we use the stroller when we're going on long trips and I think it's going to be essential with a toddler and a newborn!

We aren't totally sure how much we will actually use the stroller, but who knows. We figured it's there if we need it, and I liked that everything matched lol

  • Travel systems generally are notoriously heavy and bulky. Graco ones are especially bad.

Get a snap and go and in a few months an umbrella stroller

  • DH and I are going to get this one: https://www.toysrus.com/buy/strollers/graco-aire3-click-connect-travel-system-stroller-zeus-1896395-28879746

The stroller is extremely light and the car seat is lighter than the Chicco Keyfit. I love the stroller! It turns on a dime and it super light and easy to fold/unfold. It also stands on its own when folded. Check it out!

We have this one as well. I have never had anything wrong with it. The stroller doesn't seem any bigger than any other stroller. The car seat is easy to get in and out of the base. We don't move the base from car to car, we just have an extra base. Our DD moved to a Graco snug ride when she was 5 months because of the height and she didn't like sitting in a car seat while in the stroller anyway once she could hold her head up. At this point the infant seat became a pain because she was heavy and we weren't taking it in and out of the car.

The stroller folds awesome and is compact when folded.
  • I have the fast action fold sport and I'd say go for a stroller with inflatable tires - it with be great for any type of terrain and you do t have to be too careful. We had a regular graco travel system and the stroller is honestly too much. Our DS is 3 now and we use the jogger all the time.

  • Thanks ladies!! I think I know which one we're going with :) hubs will be so happy to not have to hear about strollers and car seats for a while!

  • So after going to check out the FastAction Fold & Sport again I have a few questions for you mamas that already have it! What do you think about the opening/space in the back?? I find it strange that the back does not go all the way up and feel it might be an issue when snowy/rainy/windy (not sure if I'm describing this well, attached a picture for what I'm talking about. I drew a red line showing the gap I'm referring to)

Also, some reviews have complained about the seat not going fully upright and child/ toddler always being at an incline. Do any of you have complaints about that? Or what about it not going completely down/lying flat??

Lastly, the stroller didn't seem to have much cushion.

I did take a look at the Graco Aire3 that @mirigirl posted. Didn't really look at the store so I'll be going back. It's much more expensive (I can get the fastaction for $124 right now, whereas this one will be at least $255, if not more) but the back is fully enclosed and it lies completely flat and seems more cushiony for babes. I also like the parent tray much better on the aire3 (zippered compartment!) but there is no child tray and I read it was a pain to remove the bar to get toddler in and out.

Hubby doesn't think we need to spend the extra money and my concerns are not a concern to him. I'm wondering if it's really worth it to spend the extra cash? Of course it's always nicer to have the "more luxurious" options..but necessary? Are these legitimate complaints for a stroller or are they just features that would be nice to have?

What do ya'll think?? Thanks so much for your input!!
