Pregnant after a Loss

Protein drinks?

Sometimes I find myself getting pretty hungry late at night. I'm too exhausted to chew, let alone fix a snack and sit down to eat it! The prenatal nurse told me it was ok to have a protein shake, but it seems like I remember reading whey or soy protein wasn't good. Any suggestions for something quick and filling?

I do think there are good protein powders out there, but you have to pay a bit more for them. We use one from pea protein (and lots of other vegan sources). Organic, no hormones, etc. I really like it. It's called plant fusion (on mobile, so no clicky). :)

Yes! VegaLite! I drink this around 3pm most days for a "get me to dinner" snack. It's amazing!! Gluten free, dairy free, soy free!! My ND and OB are all thumbs up.

I loved making smoothies in my first trimester because there was something about the combo of something cold with mild flavors that I liked that helped me get through those nauseous nights (nights were the worst for my "morning" sickness).  I never included protein powder but I did include the following:
    - ice cubes
    - a biiig tablespoon of peanut or almond butter
    - a banana
    - 1/2 cup of almond milk
    - a dash of cocoa powder

I used my blender to crush the ice and then blend it all to smooth, creamy perfection.  I liked that combo because it tastes a little like a reese's pieces smoothie but it's healthy (well, healthier...;) ).

You can get creative with other recipes, too, I have a "green" smoothie I like to make in the morning that has spinach, kale, peanutbutter, banana and blueberries in it, but I found that it was almost too "flavorful" for what I needed in first trimester to help me just get through those nauseous nights.

My ND has me stay away from whey bc she says there are too many "fillers".

I use Thorne VegaLite which, according to my ND, is complementary to a prenatal.
