on Saturday Oct. 25th, DH and I headed into the birth center to get my water broken in attempt to start labor (I was 6 days past due at this point). They successfully broke it at 11am. Mild contractions started almost right away, and the midwife asked us to head out for a few hours to walk, get food, and wait for labor to really start progressing. We headed to my bestie's house as she is only a 15min drive from the center. We hung out there until about 3:30pm, when contractions were about 5 min apart.
When we got back to the birth center, I bounced on the ball for awhile and then got into the tub. Once I was in the tub, the cxs slowed way down so the MW asked that I get out and start walking or trying different positions to help labor along. At about 5:30 I decided I needed to eat something before shit got too real. We walked over to a Teriyaki place and as I walked in, a huge painful contraction hit and things started to pick up in intensity from that point on.
When we got back to the BC the MWs checked me and I was dilated to 5cm and they were concerned baby was face up due to where they were picking up his heart beat. They had me do lunges (propped up one leg on the tub and leaned in) during my contractions in hopes that it would make baby shift and turn. An hour or so later, baby's heart beat had moved so they were hopeful he had shifted. I continued to labor as contractions really started to get bad, and was feeling a lot of pain in my hips and back. By 10pm, I was only at 7cm and almost unconsolable at that news. The MWs were concerned baby hadn't actually flipped due to where I was feeling the pain. They kept having me try different positions, but mostly laying on my side with one leg straight and the other one brought up to my chest. That was the worst, the pain was excruciating for me because of the back pain. I started getting really sassy to the MW telling her I didn't want to do that position anymore but she was hopeful it would get baby to turn. It. Was. Agony. I kept switching from the toilet (surprisingly the most comfortable position) back to the bed at the request of mw. At about 1:30am, I got back into the tub and almost immediately felt like it was time to start pushing. The MW checked me and I was only at about an 8.5 so she had me push through a contraction to help her manually move the last lip of the cervix out of the way (this is also known as the most brutal torture ever). I started to push and I immediately felt like baby's head was stuck - it felt so different from when I pushed with DD. However, after only 13min of actual pushing, Gavin came into the world at exactly 2am - sunnyside up AND with his fist up by his head (thanks, buddy).
I survived my med free birth, but TBH, I don't know that I would choose it again. There are no words for how painful the contractions were. I will say that recovery sans epidural has been a million times easier, and I am really proud of myself for getting through it. Also, I am pretty sure I terrified the other mom in labor at the center - I was screaming like a lunatic for easily the last 2 hours.

So glad to know that I'm not the only one who screams like a lunatic during labor. My screaming started just before 7cm.
I can't even imagine sunny side up AND a hand by his face! Did you manage to get out tear-free?
