Engorged? For BFing mommies. (Or who ever wants to reply)

Is anyone experiencing engorgement for the first time (or again) this late in the game?

(I realized after posting that option 1 could be misunderstood - I meant quitting feeling engorged, not quitting BFing)

  • Only over night because she is starting to go longer between feedings and I started Domperidone.
  • Loading the player...
  • There have been days recently that I will just be soooo full that I start wondering if it's been forever since LO ate, but then I realize it was only 3 hours earlier.
Over night, LO can sleep 6-8 hours and I feel no added pressure, I have to fondle myself to know where to start. =))
  • I will feel engorged if she gives me a long stretch overnight or if I go more than 4 hours without nursing or pumping, which isn't very often.
  • I get no long stretches, but because he's spent the last week or so attached to my boobs, I'm starting to get engorged if he only eats from one side at a feeding.

  • The only time I'm engorged is when LO has a really long stretch of sleep at night (9sh or more hours). This hasn't been happening recently though. A top tooth is about to pop through so LO has been nursing/using me as a pacifier more frequently at night.
  • Thanks for the replies.
Makes me feel less weird about it coming back.

I never experienced this happening with my other 2 kids.
I leaked like a sieve, but I never felt engorged beyond the first couple months.
This time I stopped leaking for the most part around 4 months, but the engorgement is coming back.
  • Mainly overnight with longer stretches of sleep. Sometimes during the day if she oy feeds one side
  • I've always felt engorged off and on, but I know the reason for it the past couple of months. I only breastfeed in the morning and evening during the week and don't pump at work. On weekends I try to stick to the morning/evening schedule and give her bottles throughout the day, but sometimes I end up breastfeeding more often...like this weekend. So I'm sure I'll be engorged Monday and Tuesday this week.

  • I was only engorged right after my milk came in, then the supply started to drop from there and never felt full again...

  • Still get engorged if I go more than 5 - 6 hours without feeding her or pumping.

When I don't feel engorged after a few hours, I start to irrationally panic and think my supply suddenly tanked. I dont know why my mind goes there, but it does. Anyone else?

  • I chose something else. I still occasionally feel engorged and I notice it on days that I drink an obnoxious amount of water. I can typically just pump once and it's back to normal.
