Hiit

Does anyone know if it's safe to do Hiit workout classes in your first trimester?

  • They are pretty intense, so I'd definitely ask the doc!
  • The only exercises I am doing during this pregnancy are walking, push ups (10 a day until I can't anymore), planks, and free weight exercises (arms and squats). I let my yearly gym membership run out in September. I used to go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I did high intensity work outs like an hour spin class, boot camp, and cross fit. I let my gym membership run out bc I know if I go to the gym I will want to do my old exercises. I always swore I'd be one of those girls going to the gym until I'm 9 months pregnant. Here's my new opinion on exercise ( and this is ONLY my opinion). I think it is more important to take it easy than to chance a high intensity workout. My twin sister was active during her first pregnancy and went Into labor two months early. They were able to stop it and she wound up giving birth two weeks early instead. With her second pregnancy she took it easy and felt she had a healthier pregnancy. I think if I eat healthy and do low intensity exercises I will have a healthier pregnancy too and I will still be able to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle for post pregnancy purposes . I also think if I gain weight and it is not muscle it will be easier to lose once the baby is born. Again this is only my opinion but I would definitely ask your doctor before taking the Hiit class.

  • I don't plan on giving up my gym mmbership I know that I can still workout just have to take it easy. I can still run and lift because my body was used to it before hand. An I going to try and set any new personal records?? No but can I still run sure. But i know if I get tired or start to feel light headed then to stop

I do it but I have been doing it for a few years now.  My Dr didn't have an issue with it. I also spin, zumba, body pump, and take barre classes.
  • If it was part of your routine pre pregnancy, you're fine. I've been doing HIIT for awhile now and my doctor doesn't have any issues. I go at my own pace and don't push as hard as I used to.
  • Im still doing it and have for years now. Im listening to my body and will scale back as needed. In most cases an active pregnancy is healthy for everyone.

  • I'm still doing HIIT, but I've switched from my class at the gym to videos at home. That way I can take breaks or call it quits if needed - I don't need the communal pressure to push myself right now!

  • I've maintained my same routine, and I feel so much better on days when I do go to the gym. Obviously listen to your body and don't push yourself too hard. :)

  • It's definitely all about knowing yourself and your body. I know I'll over do it. I also had to back off of exercise in order to ovulate/conceive.

  • I have been keeping up my HIIT but I definitely need to take more breaks than I used to, and modifying moves.  I feel so much better when I get my workout in.

  • I still do HIIT workouts 3x a week. When I get to my second trimester, my instructor said no more exercises laying on my back or jumping. I was told as long as I was already doing it, I can keep on going. :)
