MaterniT21 test with twins

Hi everyone,

I hope this post isn't too repetitive. A search was not very helpful. I realize there is another semi-active thread about sex determination, but that's not what I'm interested in.

Did anyone consider the MaterniT21 test with their twin pregnancy? Is it accurate for detection of potential difficulties in twins? Any considerations for doing this (or not doing this) in addition to the normal NT scan? I am not quite AMA and I do not have a family history of trisomy, so I don't know if my doctor will offer it- unless there is something I'm missing with a twin pregnancy.

IIRC I was told that the maternal serum screening test (not the same as maternit21 I don't believe) is not really helpful with twins because you can't be sure whose (whatever it is they look for) you're looking at. And you can't combine it with NT scan results. I don't know if that's helpful at all, sorry. We opted out of all screening.

My MFM refused to allow us to have mat21 or the other NIPT tests. He said they aren't tested enough in twins and can give inaccurate info--what PP said about not knowing which twin had something or covering up an issue.

I did the Mat21 test and if it had come up positive for a trisomy, I would have had an amnio done to test which twin had the positive (it could be either or both from the blood test). I also did the NT scan.

I was 36 and had a family history and I wanted to be certain we were proceeding with a healthy pregnancy and weigh my options if there was something going on - especially to protect the healthy twin, if there had been a discordance. We didn't know what we would do but I wanted to know our options.

Oddly, we decided not to get the gender results as we were team green - and same with trisomy, if you have a "boy" result, it could either be both or just one twin is a boy. But we had two girls so our test would have been accurate but we chose not to find out

My insurance did not cover the testing because I didn't meet certain requirements (age and no familial history). It was something like $700 out of pocket so I opted to not do the testing.

I did the NT Scan and the harmony test, but I am also AMA.
