Babies: 3 - 6 Months

baby wakes up multiple times at night and needs to be comforted

My baby who is almost 5 months now wakes up anywhere from 4-6 times throughout the night, when not hungry and needs to be held and rocked back to sleep. Anyone else have this problem? I have noticed and think that this is largely do to gas, when she has to pass gas she gets uncomfortable and wakes. I don't know if it is just a phase or what but I'm wondering if anyone else had experience with this?

  • Yup, we've been going through a phase of this too, for about 2 weeks now. LO just turned 5 months last Thursday. Most of the time, it seems to be gas but it's not always. I try to make sure I drink enough water through the day and avoid stimulants after 6 pm since we are EBF and I have noticed that LO is more restless if I don't do those things.

  • Its called the 4 month sleep regression. it will pass.
  • Same here, and I too believe it's sleep regression. I don't think it will pass until they learn to put them self to sleep, which allows them to sleep longer as they go through their sleep cycles. I haven't started sleep training, I'm pretty anxious about it. Has anyone done sleep training? I know my LO is tired and will benefit when he can get himself to sleep, but I can't hear him cry, it tugs at my heart. I want to do the no cry method... But there are still tears. I might put it off until he's 6 months so he's a bit older and I feel more ready for it.
  • I haven't tried sleep training, I can't listen to my baby cry! I give in every time, run and pick her up and rock her. which means I wake up multiple times a night:) yay
