Who's Using a Lovey?

Now that our babies are a bit older, I was wondering who out there has their little one using/sleeping with a lovey? Why did you start using one? What did you choose? Has your baby gotten attached to it yet?

We're considering starting to use one and transitioning away from the pacifier, and I'd love to see what lovies (is that the plural of lovey?) people are using! Bonus points for pictures :)

Re: Who's Using a Lovey?

  • DS1 has a blankie (named titi, no idea why) that he is very attached to and it has been a life saver. So, since DD wouldn't even take a paci we got her hooked on a lovey from day one. It is a fluffy, wash cloth thing with a bear head and paws. It has been dubbed titibear. No pics cause my phone doesn't allow it.

  • I bought bubble gauze material (like A&A) and made a little 12 x 12 inch blanket for her to hold/rub at night. She's not attached, but I don't think that comes for another month or so. She's more interested in pulling on the hair in the back of her head. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.I'm a hair twirler too.

  • We use a lovey! LO loves them. He rubs them to fall asleep. During the day he will find one, grab it and start cuddling it. So cute! We have several, a couple with animal heads, one taggie and some just small blankies. The only one I let him sleep with are the A&A security blankets. They are the breathable ones. I just ran into LO's room and took this picture.

  • We have a few lovies we rotate. She doesn't use it every night, just when she's having trouble settling down or for naps when i can tell she is tired but won't go to sleep.

  • We also use an angel dear lovey in the crib. He does like to nestle in with it when he falls asleep. He doesn't have much interest in them when he's awake though.. Maybe when he's older.

  • We have the animal head blanket ones from Target, elephant and owl.  The owl is the backup for when "melvin" is in the wash.  We started using it to break the nursing to sleep at bedtime habit almost two months ago.  It is definitely a comfort association now, he used it at the babysitter a lot the other day.

He never took a paci so I'm no help there.

  • We have a Jellycat bunny in there with him, but he doesn't seem too interested in it. I like to tuck it under his arm when he's sleeping because it looks so cute, but he doesn't really care. He does take a paci and it is glorious...baby wakes up? Just pop it back in! Ds1 had to be nurses back to sleep every time he woke so it is amazing to me. I have no imminent plans to wean from the paci at bedtime.

  • I give dd a small muslin blanket, but he is not attached yet at all. My ds started getting attached to his monkey head lovey blanket at 4-6 months and still sleeps with it to this day. He's 3

  • Out daughter chose a 12 inch square Minnie Mouse lovie as her favorite thing just by how her face lights up when she sees it. We just recently started letting her fall asleep with it but we remove it from the crib before we go to bed. I also recommend having more than one of the same lovie in case you leave it somewhere or it gets dirty. Somewhere I read that it's smart to leave one in the crib all the time so you never have to deal with not having it at bedtime :)
  • So are we at the age where these mini blankets are ok? And not a SIDS hazard? I think my LO would enjoy one of these blankets w a head. :)

  • LO is a big fan of snuggling up with a lovie. We have a few angel dear ones that are super soft, but my favorite by far, is our Willowbub. I sent in our favorite outfit dd wore as a newborn and she used the fabric to make a lovie doll.
  • We have a few that we rotate, one for bedtime, one for nap/play during the day and one that goes to daycare/in the car seat. We have ones that have a little animal that rattles attached and she seems to really like them. Our older DS has one as well and it has been a life saver with him, but now I worry about when to break the habit (he will be 3 at the end of January).
  • She doesn't have one of those but she has a tiny pink chenille blankie that she can only sleep with if its over her face. We move it in the middle of the night but she can still somehow find it and put it on her face. If we keep it out of her crib she puts her blanket over her face. But she won't fall asleep without this one particular safety hazard.

  • Oh, and DD1 had a pinky. It was a much nicer version of a taggie that we found in a specialty store that soon closed and was unfortunately impossible to find if it were ever lost. We lost and found it several times for two years until it was gone forever. Then we moved on to a stuffed animal that stuck with us for seven years. This one was easy to replace, so when it got raggedy we'd buy a new one and tell her he had a bath.

LO loves his katelyn & co. woobie he snuggles with it for naps and uses it to fall asleep at night. I leave it with him during naps since I watch him on my monitor but take it away after he falls asleep at night for peace of mind.

We use the a&a lovey. It's so helpful. LO used to want us to just hold her hand while she was in her crib, but the lovey replaced that. Best part is it comes in a 2 pack so one is always clean and ready to go.

This. LO wanted to sleep with a blanket over his face as a newborn. Obviously that wasn't going to fly but at about 4 mo we allowed him to take this in the crib. He is super attached to having it, but he isn't specific. In a crunch an extra shirt has done the trick when he's tired in the car.

  • Cora has twitter bird, giraffey, and duckie. She hasn't chosen a favorite yet so we rotate them. She likes to hold the satin edge in her hand and put the thumb of that hand in her mouth. She falls asleep in under a minute a lot of the time. Without the lovey it takes longer.
  • I didn't know that's what these were called. DD loves hers. It was a baby shower gift she goes to sleep with it every night.
  • DD has this mini-blanket thing like a puppy. We call it Pinky. She uses it for bed time and sometimes for nap time, although she's not very attached to it. But I leave it for her in her crib/Mommaroo/RnP.
