Question...After HSG...

My doc has planned for me to have HSG on CD 8 of this upcoming cycle and when talking to the nurse she said if that's not the problem he wants to do a "post coital exam". At first I was taken back by this because it was never brought up with doc so I asked about what it was to the nurse and she explained that on CD 12 they want me to have sex with DH then drive into get checked out within an hour. Has anyone ever done this?? All I keep thinking is WTF am I supposed to do with DD while do it and how the heck am I supposed to keep all the stuff from dripping down my legs as I drive to the office to get this exam??? Any experience/advice welcome on this one. And sorry for being gross but I have a feeling you ladies know what I mean about the dripping.

Yeah, we the nurse first said it she wasn't clear either and said she needed to speak to doc then call me back to clarify so in the meantime I went to Dr. Google who said it's to check to make sure my CM is allowing the sperm to get through. I don't know...

I've not heard of it and it sounds kinda yucky.

As for how to keep the stuff from coming out, you could use a menstrual cup like soft cups.

I swear they just make up stuff to see if we will do it. "Let's see if they will drive in after the hibbity-jibbity - how uncomfy is that?"

All I can say about this is that my friend had to do it. She had the test before moving on to IVF 10 years ago and I think it was more the thing back then. Maybe your doc is a little "old school?" She did say it was pretty gross. Good luck!

I just saw my RE last week and am currently going through testing. I have my HSG tomorrow. She went over almost every possible situation and what we could do depending on different results from the different tests. She never mentioned that once. I am so sorry if you have to do that. I can't imagine having to drive to my RE's office 20 minutes away, leaking fluids.

Keep us updated when you hear back from the doc on what exactly you are supposed to do.

Thanks! We just moved to Ohio 3 weeks ago, but we lived right outside of Iowa City for the last 8 years! DH taught at the University! We had season tickets for football and the weekend package for basketball! I miss my hawkeyes!! Go Hawks!

Haha! I bet you do get some looks! My BIL actually played for the football team and my sis was the filed hockey goalie but they graduated back in 2000 so that was a while ago!

I, too, though, share your uncertainty about driving to the RE immediately following sex! That would be a little uncomfortable, I'd imagine!
