Wall decals on textured walls??

We are planning on decorating nursery with cute wall decals but all of them say to not use on textured walls! Our home is only a couple years old & most homes I've been in have some sort of texture. Ours is only basic texture, kinda like orange peel.

Anyone have any experience with putting up decals on this type wall? How did it turn out? Thanks!

we did it in the old house and yes, it didnt stick as nicely as a smooth wall but it worked...most newer homes have textured walls

We used those for dd some stay better than others just clean the walls first. They are still up there and doing good, our townhouse is a couple years old as well and has textured walls but they work on there just fine.

They either A: won't stick at all -or- B: will stick, but won't last long

It really depends on the quality of the adhesive on the vinyl or if it's just a moveable sticker.

It also depends on how much the walls are textured. The more texturized, the harder it is to get the decals to stay on.

I make vinyl decals and agree with pp. Typically they can be applied and will stick, but will not have the durability as a smooth wall would. Smaller images or fonts will work better.

DS has some clings that stick and some that don't, oddly they are all from the same package. I would love to do clings again for the nursery, but it is such a pain in the rear end to keep them up that I don't know if it is worth it.

We are currently living in southern California and it seems textured walls are all the rage here because almost every house we've been in has them. (This is new to me because in the southeast where I'm from textured walls are not highly desirable.) We did a wall decal in DS's nursery on a textured wall with an "orange peel texture" and it did perfectly. It went on great and stuck well and stayed up there without issue until we moved 2 years later.

We have textured walls (orange peel) and did the wall decals from Target. They're stuck very well for almost 4 years now.

Ours was a quote we had custom cut by a seller on etsy. I'm not sure what kind of vinyl she used, but I imagine that they probably stick a little better than some of the pre-packaged sticker type stuff.

It also depends on the type of paint on the walls. The glossier it is, the better it will stick.

Have you considered doing a whole-wall stencil? I did this for DD1's room.

Here is a pic - I don't have a great one, but this one was on my phone. With a textured wall, you'd get a round stencil brush and "dab" it in from different angles to get the full coverage. They have some really cute ones

I have textured walls and put decals up anyway. Most of them have fallen off but a few have held on. I wouldn't waste the money if I had to choose again.
