Success after IF

Strange Road traveled

Hi All,

I apologize for not introducing myself prior to this post, but I'm still in limbo with the viability of this pregnancy.  A little background... this is my 4th pregnancy (last 3 have been losses).  I had my first IUI with a trigger shot, on 9/24/14.  I've had the following hcg results:

10/10 - hcg 11 (16 days past IUI)
10/13 - hcg 40 (19 days)
10/15 - hcg 63.3 (21)
10/17 - hcg 141 (23)
10/22 - hcg 819 (28)

My nurse told me from my first blood test that it was a very low number and they would watch it for miscarriage or ectopic.  After the 2nd hcg result came back I asked her best case scenario and she said "best case would be that your body takes care of it on its own" (i.e. natural miscarriage).  After today's bloodwork came back she said she would like for me to come in for an ultrasound to see if they can see anything in the uterus "but would anticipate it not being viable" or in the tubes.

I guess I don't understand why she's so set on it not being viable if the numbers are doubling every 48 hours.  Is it because, since I had an IUI, there's no way I could have ovulated later so on 28 days past IUI it should be MUCH higher?  Anyone with similar experience with and IUI and low HCG numbers that turned out to be viable?

Those numbers look good to me.  I think she needs to work on her bedside manner.  Even with IUI it can be a late implanter or a slow grower.  Keep your spirit up, and please come back and let us know.

Also, you are totally welcome to post here.  However, you will find more women who are in your shoes on the Pregnant After IF board.  They are awesome over there!  ETA: Over here at SAIF we have already had our babies.  That's the difference between here and there.  But again, you are welcome wherever you are comfortable.

  • So i had the ultrasound this morning and they didn't see anything in my uterus.  They saw something in my right tube and suspected it was the pregnancy so decided to go ahead with the MX shot.  My hcg levels rose again to 1600 so glad I got the ultrasound to ensure it wasn't in the uterus.  I think we might look at IVF since this is my 2nd ectopic.  You ladies bring me hope!
