Fever

little man has a temp of 102.7 (underarm). He's still drinking a lot and eating a little (mostly the pouches of baby food). He is basically camped out on my chest dozing off and on. I'm contemplating taking him in, but I figure there's not much they can do. He has no other symptoms (no ear pulling, stuff nose, etc.). I'm giving him Tylenol and ibuprofen (rotating). Anything else I can do? I don't want to put him in a cool bath b/c he HATES cool water. Would you take him in? Thanks ladies!

Re: Fever

  • maybe go for a walk in the stroller?

Treat the symptoms and take him in if you think he is not acting like himself, or is listless.

If he still has a fever after 2 rounds of at home meds, maybe call the office.

  • The only sneaky thing I would keep an eye out for is a uti since he has no other symptoms. It's really unlikely, but if he seems to get suddenly really upset (since we don't actually know when they're peeing) then I would call the pedi.

  • If he's eating something, and taking fluids I'd just continue with what your doing and give extra snuggles.

I wouldn't give him a cold bath either.

Like PP said, give Tylenol or Motrin and as long as he's still eating and drinking I wouldn't worry too much. When DD was 10 months the doc only wanted us to come in after she had the fever for 2 days. If its a virus you might also notice a rash.

  • He had a fever yesterday as well, but it's definitely higher today. I think I'll keep up with the meds and see how he is tomorrow. He's up running around now since the Tylenol kicked in. Thanks for the advice!

  • @mcbush‌ BMs are normal, no drool and no runny nose. He does have a habit of getting a fever about a week or so before cutting teeth so that could very well be it.

  • G had the same thing about a month ago and it ended up being roseola. He had a reasonably high fever for about five days (I treated with Motrin and took him to the doctor after day 2, he said it was just a bug), had some diarrhea around day 4 and then got a red, speckled rash all over his trunk the night after the fever broke.  His eating and drinking were fine the whole time, but he just wanted to cuddle and watch sesame street all day and nights were NOT fun. The whole thing lasted about 7 days, but once the rash was gone, he was good as new!
