Re: GTKY: Your Favorite Halloween Activity From Childhood

  • I loved Halloween. Every year we would have dinner at Friendly's before trick or treating. My personal favorite thing was trading candy with siblings and friends at the end of the night.

When I became a teenager, I started doing the shaving cream fights and admit I had a ton of fun with that, too.

My favorite costume was when I was Gizmo from Gremlins.

  • I love the pumpkin carving! Normally takes me forever though, so we'll see what happens this year with LO.

These are the ones I did last year...
  • I love everything about the fall! Playing in the leaves, visiting the pumpkin patch, the scents! I enjoy Halloween but on the list of things I love about fall it is pretty close to the bottom. Sure it's a fun day, but I just love everything else so much more!!!

  • I loved going to real pumpkin patches, where the pumpkins were still on the vine. I guess they don't grow well here, because here pumpkin "patches" are just a bunch of pumpkins stacked up in a parking lot. Lame.

    CANDY!!!

When I was little, my friend's parents would take us and some other kids trick or treating, and once we finished their neighborhood, we would hop in their van and drive around town, stopping in different neighborhoods to trick or treat. It was awesome...we didn't use those plastic pumpkin buckets. We brought pillow cases!!! And filled them!!!

I grew up thinking that anything less than a full pillowcase worth of candy was inadequate. DH thinks I'm insane and says that DS should just trick or treat in our neighborhood. It feels wrong!! And he shot down my (joking!) idea of multiple costumes and multiple trips around the neighborhood. Silly DH! ;)

  • Trick or treating! We always lived in military housing so there were lots of families with children and lots of houses close together. We would go home to drop off candy and then go out for more. It was great, kids everywhere and the neighborhood was safe so my parents let me go out with just my friends from a relatively young age. I was very sad when we bought our house and only had three trick or treaters.

  • I love it all.

But in my teens, I lived with my greatgrandmother and she was a Witness so we didnt celebrate any holidays. It was really strange seeing everyone be so festive and coming home to nothing.

  • MY mom always did the "guess what" game where she blindfolded us and put spaghetti in a bowl or jello and we had to guess if it was brains or intestines … something like that. She always dressed the house up nice. Good memories from that.

And baking pumpkin seeds! That's prob my best memory.
