Gas Relief...

Mommies, I want to share what I just discovered. DD gets HORRIBLE gas every afternoon/evening. Nursing does nothing but make it worse of course. Warm baths have been helping, but I had another idea tonight. Baby heating pad!!! Just wet a burp cloth or rag until its really warm. Then I put another on top of that to seal in the heat, and then her warmest blanket, and her pacifier in her mouth. I'll let the picture speak for itself. :-)

Re: Gas Relief...

  • I'm absolutely trying this!! Poor LOs little tummy gets so bloated she looks like she has a little beer belly or something. Sometimes it'll be all misshapen to one side. Makes my heart break for her! Thanks for the tip!!

  • Amazing!! DS gets super gassy in the evenings also!! Is it the heat that helps the gas? Never would've thought of that!

The heat helps the tummy muscles relax so that they can fart or poop it out. I got two HUGE farts within an hour of doing that, and for once, it didn't hurt her so much to pass it. She slept while she passed it, actually. :-) K has been nursing great all night with none of our normal problems.
  • You are a genius.

  • Also, I forgot to mention, I left it on her for a little over an hour. I Wanted to give the tummy muscles ample time to relax.
  • You're welcome. :-) @str13‌
  • I will have to try this!! Thanks :)

  • Thank you! LO gets painful gas between 4 and 6 am and it kills me to hear him cry and struggle with it.

Yes it does, but you have to make it really really warm to begin with. That's why I put the second one on top to seal in the heat, and then the blanket too. It was still slightly warm when I took it off and put her clothes on. If it doesn't, you can always rewet it.

Yeah, K gets it so bad that she starts tossing her head around, crying, latching and unlatching within seconds. Its painful for her and painful to watch. I got this idea after a gassy boot of about three to four hours of crying and fussing. I had put her in the bath, and that helped, but it came back. I wanted to give her that warmth but not dry her skin out with another bath. Me and my kids get really dry skin. Thus, the baby heating pad. :-) she was out within ten minutes and quiet within five. Results may vary of course, but it does work. I hope it makes your LO feel better.
  • @CUBBIESMAMA3 do you lay her down without clothes on?
  • DD was struggling with horrible gas as well. I felt so bad for her and finally my SIL suggested we lay her tummy down on a heating pad set to low. OMG, you are right.... It is a miracle worker!

  • Amazing!!! It worked, I wish I had known to do this with DD! You have made my life a little easier thank you @CUBBIESMAMA3‌
  • @CUBBIESMAMA3 do you lay her down without clothes on?

Yes, I did. She only had her diaper on when I laid her on the mat. But it looks like you got it handled. :-)

My heating pad is still too hot even on the low setting. That's why I didn't use it.
  • I actually thought about that this morning. @JanisBaby14‌
