Halloween Fun!?

What are your plans for your LO's first Halloween?! Any fun family traditions??

My parents have an "outdoor" haunted house called "Frightmare". They (mainly my dad but my DH helps) decorate the outside of the house to the extreme, he's got monster animatronics, a graveyard, electric chair, giant spider webs.. etc. When I was a kid we used to have family and friends come over and dress up and go outside and scare people... it's all outside, no one goes in the house. Over the years, my dad has scaled back and now just puts out the display, no one dressing up. My dad puts out all his stuff every night of the week except tue/thur and he brings it in everynight - very dedicated lol and people will stop by throughout the month of Oct to see it.. but on Halloween we get hundreds of people that stop by to check it out. My brother and his family will come in and my niece and nephew will give out treats! Can't wait for Zoey to experience her first Halloween.. not that she will know what's going on, lol.

Here is one of the less creepy/gory things he puts out. I remember having to paint those alien markings on the frame when I was a kid.

  • Omg! That is awesome and super creepy!

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • We went to the pumpkin patch this past weekend. I think that will become a tradition.  Next year we may also do Boo at the Zoo since she will be a little older.  Just hanging at the house passing out candy this year.

Here is a pic of our outing...She never smiled.  But she atleast didn't cry.
  • I have a chiropractic appointment on Halloween and might take the kiddos to the mall for safe trick or treating after, haven't decided yet. Our town shuts down Main Street and everyone goes trick or treating there so I will probably take DS there to do some trick or treating while DD hangs out in the stroller with me in her costume which will be either a giarrafe or pumpkin. We also did pumpkin carving last night which DH anc I started the first year we were together and have done every year. DS had a small pumpkin he colored and DD hung out in the swing while we did pumpkins.

  • I live in a small development and almost every house decorates. This is the first time in years Halloween is on a weekend night, so I'm thinking it's going to be a big deal. Of course it's all about the kids, but there are huge parties with kegs in the driveways and witches wine. The past few years have been odd with the weather, a snow storm, hurricane Sandy and rain, so I hope the weather cooperates. One thing that's not so great is, I go back to work next week at have to work Saturday morning, BOO!
  • DH and I were never that into Halloween, but now that DS is here we want to start some family traditions! We will be going to the pumpkin patch and carving pumpkins. On Halloween we are taking DS to trick or treat during the day at the retirement home where our church volunteers at. That night all of the grandparents are coming over and we will dress DS up. Probably just stay home and pass out candy this year, but excited to take him trick or treating the years coming up!

  • The big halloween parade was actually this past weekend, so we went to that.  Not sure about actual Halloween plans yet, though.  There is  a trunk or treat at the DC next weekend we may hit up and DD will probably wear her pumpkin outfit in on Halloween, but nothing else.  Her baptism is that weekend so we'll have family in town which will probably overtake any plans.
  • wow thing thing is awesome! sadly I don't think we will do anything for Halloween this year, other than dress up and hand out candy
  • We're going to a pumpkin patch and corn maze this weekend.  I don't think we'll do much besides hand out candy on the 31st.  I'm looking forward to when he'll be more aware of the holiday, though!  But for now, he'll be super cute.

  • @laceydanielle .. there are so many cute costumes you can make on a budget! Check out pinterest! I think home made costumes are the best and I'm planning on making DD's too!

  • Debating on whether we're going TOTing with friends of ours where they live or if I'll just take the boys to a few neighbors' houses and then let DS1 hand out candy at the door, which last year he enjoyed more than getting candy in his own bucket!

This weekend we went to a farm that had all kinds of fall activities so he went in his first corn maze where mom started to get claustrophobic and was afraid she'd be like that guy that called 911 to come get him out of one last year. haha
  • DD had two costumes for her first Halloween: R2D2 and a stuffed chicken. I made them both and had a ton of fun doing it. She wore the R2D2 costume at her day care's Halloween parade this past week, and wore the chicken costume to a festival in our neighborhood today.

We also picked pumpkins with some friends last weekend and plan on carving them tomorrow.
