Non-progressing contractions

Anyone else having/had contractions that aren't "doing anything"? Been monitored, the little machine picks them up, sometimes they are regular. This morning, was about 5-6 an hour...
Prescribed meds to take daily for them, but I can go to work and whatnot (can't really function but ok)
But I'm not dilated, the ffn(?) test is negative, and everything looks ok.
Don't get me wrong, that's good at 30 weeks and I don't WANT them to start doing anything. Just after being on my feet for any lengthy period of time, they start up. And that's what my job consists of, so can't really avoid it.
I just don't understand...
Guess I'm going to have to buck up and deal with it for hopefully atleast 8 weeks?
Any input or insight is always appreciated
Ok. Pity party over.
Just...what do?!

Re: Non-progressing contractions

  • I know this advice gets old but are you drinking enough water? It actually makes a huge difference when it comes to BH contractions.

  • Been having really intense BH for the past two weeks. OB said i shld rest and drink water. But just like you i may have to move around at work a lot and this triggers it. Im hoping to hold on

  • Yea. Believe me after the first time going in and them sending me home telling me to drink more water, I've started living in it. Probably like 9 starbucks Trenta cups of water a day lol. I use that reference because I work there
  • I started having mild contractions after an emergency surgury which i didnt notice but they did from the monitor. The meds to stop it definitely helped in my case. All I can really say is take all advice from your dr. Try to rest/relax as much as you can and drink plenty of water. Hang in there and keep us updated.
  • I had contractions several weeks ago (dilated fingertip, short cervix) and also on meds. I had a positive fFN then, but nothing came of it and my contractions have stopped.  I had another fFN this week (they said they could do them bi-weekly?) and it was negative this time. I don't know. Having the normal BH's, but that's it.

Sorry you're dealing with this, hopefully they stop and LO stays nice and comfy in there.

  • I'm in the same boat. 2 negative FFN, even when I'm hydrated I can aprox 2-3 and hour. Sometimes they are more painful and after increased activity they can get rowdy. After a couple days of crappy sleep, nausea and long day with DS, i had 17 in 2 hours...headed in for monitoring.
My high risk midwife calls it an irritable uterus. That it's the body's way of calling foul and making me relax and rest. Unfortunately that's the only way to calm it down.
Can you modify your schedule for shorter shifts or take more breaks? That may help,Good Luck!

  • Glad I'm not the only one. My doctor doesn't seem overly concerned at all with mine as long as they subside when I lay down. I'm on my feet a lot at work so it's hard to relax. Especially coming home to my 4 yr old. I haven't been checked at all which worries me sometimes. 2 weeks ago I was having 10-11 an hour. I've had a lot today also. I'm drinking tons of water. They stop when I lay down but the second I stand back up they start again. My husband just thinks I'm nuts and overreacting!

This is exactly my situation. With work and a 4 year old and everything!
If they become bad enough you can talk to your dr about a prescription to help for the contractions.
Lately I've just tried to rest when I can and literally carry a giant thing of water around. I can't work any shifts longer than 4 hours though, or the pressure and pain is literally crippling. I've decided to try to just push through with Tylenol and hope that the meds they prescribed help.

Thank you ladies for all the input! I'm glad/sorry at the same time that others are dealing with this too. We can do it!! Cuz we're awesome :)

I have an irritable uterus too, hence the bed rest. I was contracting every 4-6 minutes per the monitor, but no cervical changes. Luckily for me I don't need meds, just rest and hydration keep mine at bay. Mine are caused by fibroids and dehydration from HG. Hang in there!

  • I've been having allot of contractions lately too. They feel differently then BH I've had before. I sometimes question if it's early labor because that's what it feels like. They'll eventually go away, so I'm not overly worried.

I've been having them allot today. They woke me up from my nap. I'm still having them, but drinking water and hope they go away. My belly feels really sore too, which is new to me too.

This is my 4th pregnancy, so you'd think I would have experienced everything so far.

Yikes!  I would get those checked if they don't stop.

Yeah. I keep telling myself that I really should go in. It's advice I'd give someone else, but then they go away, then I'm fine.

  • Today was my first really tough day with BH as well. They came
Consistently for a few hours. When I got home today I drank what felt like gallons of water and rested. I went hiking and have been on my feet all weekend so I'm chalking it up to dehydration and too much time on my feet- they have subsided since. I have an appointment Tuesday and plan to ask some questions about this as well! Hoping all our little ones stay cozy inside us for the next two months!
