Twins??

is anyone hoping or wishing or even suspecting their having twins?

Our family has a history of fraternal twins. So it's always a thought in my head.

Re: Twins??

  • We had two embryos transferred so it's a great possibility that we will! Twins also run in my hubby's family but due to the IVF that won't really matter at this point. We would be thrilled with one or two, but considering the cost of IVF, and the fact that we had no embryos to freeze, twins would complete our family.

  • Nope, not at all. We have a 9 month old, so that and twins would be less sleep than I would like to have. Plus, high-risk pregnancy and all scares me too.

  • I'm kind of terrified of twins, mostly for financial reasons. Putting 2 through international school that costs the same as college in the US is is already going to be tough. Three? I'm sure we'd manage if we needed too, but I just... Yeah.

  • Noooooooo.

Seriously, I feel panicky even thinking about it. DS didn't sleep at all for the first 6-7 months of his life, he barely sleeps now at 20m. I can't imagine adding two more to the mix and never sleeping again.

Deciding to add a second to the family is a crazy enough decision for me, we don't need three little people around here!

  • I had two embryos that could have been put in but chose not to for a variety of reasons: my health, financial and last/most important health of babies. Many twins are lower birth rates and higher risk for complications. Sounds good in theory to complete your family but the risks are something to be aware of - not that we have a choice anyway!
TTC since 2009 started going to RE 5/2011:
    Polyp removed/hypothyriod 6/2011

  • I've got a very strong family history of them though (my mom's parent's had twins, my dad's dad is a twin, and my dad's mom had older sibling twins). But I'm really hoping it's just one!!

  • I did an IUI and had 4 mature follicles....so were at risk for multiples. Plus twins run in both of our families. We will be happy with whatever we are blessed with. We have been sort of preparing ourselves for at least twins just because of the chances.

  • Twins runs in my family. My dad's a twin, my grandma was a twin. Part of me would be excited and the other scared! I'm already considered high risk and I keep seeing $$$$ lol.
  • My husband is a twin, so there's a definite possibility, but I'll safely assume it's not until I'm told otherwise...then I'll press the panic button. :P

His twin sister (who had twice the chance of having twins than we will given she's the woman) has had two lovely singletons.

I know a women who had twins twice. One set of identical, the other fraternal. Yikes!

Your husband being a twin does not increase your chances of having twins. Twins come from the mother's side of the family.

  • I couldn't do that.  We had a really rough transition to one child with our marriage and I really don't want to even consider the thought.

It took a lot to come around to the idea of doing it again.

  • Both my mom and paternal grandmother hyper-ovulated... causing my dad to be a twin and I have younger twin sisters.

Twins would put us in the poor house.

I had a high risk ultra sound with DD and it showed she was all alone.  I am going to ask for another one this time.

  • God I hope not. I agree with pp it would put us in the poor house and id probably lose my sanity. I have a dating ultrasound in 2 weeks so I'm praying for one little blob on the screen :)

  • Fraternal twins runs in my family... I am one! I would love to have twins!

I have to say growing up as a twin is awesome... you always have someone going through the same stages with you.

If you or your mom is a Frat twin you have a higher chance of having twins (because of hyper-ovulation gene)

  • I would be super excited about twins, but also totally terrified! We have an almost 4-year-old, too, and I'd like three kids but DH is pretty certain he'll be done after two. So if it ends up being twins, I would get my three!

  • I have twins that will be three in jan so they'll be 3.5 when the new baby arrives. Mine are fraternal and spontaneous so my chances are relatively high to have twins again. I wouldn't say I'm hoping for twins but I'm not scared either. I had a stressful pregnancy with my boys but they were perfectly healthy and needed no nicu. The only scenario that would leave me flustered is twins girls bc I'd feel like I'd have to literally start over with clothes and toys etc!!! :)
  • I'm 10 weeks today and expecting twins
  • The thought has crossed my mind, sometimes I think it would be a good thing. Only cause there is a 8 year age gap between this baby and my youngest now, so they would have someone to play with...

  • Twins do run in my family so I am aware there may be a chance.  Part of me would be excited, but part of me hope there is only one because it typically makes for a lower risk pregnancy and a bigger, healthier baby.

  • I would love twins! I've always wanted them actually :) My aunt and uncle on my mom's side both had twins, and my husband's uncle had twins also. Not going to get my hopes up though; I just want a healthy baby!
  • Dear God no twins.  I would seriously freak the F out.

By the time they were 3 or so they were really fun, but the first year was hard.

  • I always wanted twins when I was little but now that I have my DD I really just want one. I feel like twins would just be to much adjustment for us all. If it happens I will be happy and we will get used to it but man will I stress.
  • Twins run on my moms side, my grandma is a twin. I'm also older and I read that this helps increase the chance of having twins.

I would love to have them! I want to kiss and it would be nice to have hem both at once considering I'm 35! I'll find out next week at my first ultrasound . Fingers crossed!
  • DH and I have talked about it, and we would be happy either way. :) I think it might be easier since we do not already have kids, but also I think it depends on the environment you were raised in. Some people are used to big families and/or chaotic households (like me) and it could be fun (especially around the holidays)! I think it would be a challenge, but I could see the unique specialness of it. My MIL is a twin (I know that doesn't affect me), but it's neat to see how close they are.

  • We also transfered two embryos so it could be twins as well. I think the only part of me that is ok with twins is the part that feels like I couldn't hope one embryo took and another wouldn't. Otherwise, I am a NICU nurse and the risk of carrying them is terrifying, so I will be ecstatic with one healthy child!
