Lump in Armpit UPDATE

UPDATE my doctor took a look and believes based on the location and feel of the lump that it is just an inflamed sweat gland. They are going to keep an eye on it to make sure, but he said it isn't uncommon because of changing hormones. Thanks for your support!!!!

i have a doctors appointment this morning and plan to bring this up, but I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

Throughout my pregnancy, my arm pits have actually been really itchy. Weird, I know. I think it is because of some stretch marks that have made their way from the sides of my boobs to my arm pits. Because I was overweight to start this pregnancy, I have been extra cautious with my diet, and have stayed within the recommended weight gain by my doctor, so I don't feel like these stretch marks are a result of normal pregnancy weight gain (promise not to turn this into a weight gain thread!)

In the last week or so, I have started to get a lot of breast tenderness, which I assumed was related to my body preparing to feed our daughter, whenever she comes out! Then yesterday, I noticed a pain in my arm pit so I started rubbing it and felt a little lump that hurt. It isn't red or inflamed like an ingrown hair would be, it's under the skin.

Has this happened to anyone else? I am thinking it may be related to my body getting ready to produce colostrum and milk for our daughters. Dr. Google confirmed for me that milk producing glands do run under your arm pits. But that shady doctor also mentioned about 10 other causes. I am curious if anyone else has had a similar problem, but definitely plan to bring it up with my doctor today.

  • It sounds like it could be milk glands but my mom had something similar (but wasn't pregnant) and it was like a cyst under her arm.
Hopefully your doctor can give you reassuring news!

  • I had this first with my DD. For me, it was a milk gland that was blocked. My doctor said to make sure that my daughter ate as much as she could on that side to help clear it and also, massaging it to help bring the milk down. It got really painful when I was engorged but eventually it went away as my supply evened out.

This time with DS, I havent had much problems with them but they do get sore if I go too long without feeding him.

  • Your breasts begin producing colostrum midway through your pregnancy. This could be a plugged duct. Massage it very gently in the direction of your breast, and see if that helps. Your doctor might want to examine it too, to help figure out what it is (some lymph nodes are also in your armpits so you could be fighting off a bug and one is inflamed). Good luck!

  • I got these during both pregnancies. They are annoying but ultimately went away. I ended up switching to an all natural deodorant instead on antiperspirant. That seemed to help quite a bit.

  • I've had swollen armpits almost my whole pregnancy, and now have a little lump too. Plan to bring it up tmrw, but did figure it was something hormonal..
