onsies under footed pjs?

My DD wears a lot of the Carters style button up pjs with feet. Just lately I noticed 2 different moms I know say they put a tshirt or onsie on under the pjs. I never thought to do this and never did it with DS. Just curious how many moms on here bother to do that. I just look at it as another layer or set of buttons to fuss with. I like to keep it easy and neither one of my babies seemed bothered by it.

    Lurking here, but that's what all my kids have lived in for the first couple of months. All were born in winter in Wisconsin. I'd put them in long-sleeved onesies with a sleeper on top. :)

    DD would sweat like crazy if I did that. She sleeps in her footed pjs and then swaddled in a Nuroo. Even with that I still have to make sure it's cool enough for her or she gets so hot!

    Our pediatrician said the make sure the baby had as many layers as I had on to sleep comfortably plus one layer for the first month - so if I would wear pjs (cotton top and bottom) and a comforter, then I would put DD after one month in three cotton layers (onesie, sleeper, and sleep-sack) because two cotton layers=one comforter in my head. 

    You don't want your baby to over heat since that increases the risk of SIDS.

    Exactly how much *more* work do you think it is to have a onesie on? And, honestly, if it's the difference between keeping LO comfortable, temp-wise, and being easier for me, the baby being comfortable will win every time.
    This.  Unless it was really warm my kids always had a onesie under their sleeper.

    LO was born small for gestational age and our pediatrician recommended until her body weight gets higher that we use a onesie under her sleeper.  That being said, she got overheated at night in her onesie, sleeper, and swaddle with the house temp set to 68.  I'd go with whatever makes your LO comfortable because you'll know what is best for your child and no two kids are alike.
