Acne and blackheads

I have blackheads all over my face in addition to my acne. Anyone else experienced this, I'm 11 weeks pregnant.

Re: Acne and blackheads

  • I've broke out like a teenager. I'm hoping "glowing" happens soon.

  • here. any idea what we can use for blackheads? i have been using a benzoyl peroxide wash (figure if it doesn't sit on my face it can't be that bad) but it isn't doing squat.

  • Burt's Bees has a facial cleanser that I have been using that is free of dyes chemicals, etc and for sensitive skin. Supposed to be natural. It has seemed to help mine some! I got it at Walmart.
  • The best way to get rid of black heads is to use a scrub. You can even just use raw sugar on your face mixed with some warm water.

I won't use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid when pregnant. If you can find a sulfur wash for your face, that does an awesome job to clear up break outs and black heads.

  • I broke out horribly weeks 5 and 6 but started using a cleaner and toner by it works... All natural and amazing. Email me if you're interested in seeing a before and after iwgdiamondwraps@gmail.com
  • I just ordered the belli blemish treatment off amazon that's supposed to be good for pregnancy. Also, biore pore strips I try to use once a week.
  • BenzaClin works and is safe. You need a prescription from your OB.
  • My OB said it was okay for me to use Neutragena on the spot acne treatment. It's 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide.

This is what I was going to recommend! I was having really bad breakouts a few weeks ago and got their facial wipes and my face since has been so much more clear!

  • I tried the belli blemish off of amazon the stuff did not work for me. I can't seem to find anything that works
  • I have terrible acne on my back and chest! My dr said not to use any acne spot treatments...I will try the Burt ' s Bees. Any other suggestions? My husband said he used oranges on his acne as a teenager lol. Thoughts?
  • The mud products from Glam Glow work really well on black heads. I have no idea how to get rid of the breakouts though :( I have the skin of a teenaged boy some days. Gross.
  • I'm glad someone brought this up. My chin is a teenaged minefield. Going to try all of this....

  • I found that taking my makeup off with virgin coconut oil and putting a thin layer of it on after washing my face has helped. It is a natural astringent and is completely safe. It's affordable too and you get a lot in the jar. Tea tree oil is also a great spot treatment I've found. I hope this helps.
  • Blackheads require exfoliation. The easiest way is to use an exfoliating brush with a gentle cleanser. You gotta be careful not to over-exfoliate when you use those, though. Doing it more than a couple of times a week can actually irritate your skin.

There's also always good-ole pregnancy-safe Vitamin C.  I broke out pretty hardcore recently, and this has been helping me get it back under control. It's a little pricier than most stuff I use for my face, but you only need like, a pea-sized amount, and you don't need to use it daily - every other day has been doing the trick for me.

    Good luck!

  • I read that our faces are producing more oil during pregnancy, hence the breakouts and blackheads. Then washing your face with a harsh cleanser will cause your face to produce even more. It's a vicious cycle. Use gentle and natural cleansers. Also have heard that ACV is a great pH balancing toner.

  • I have been having this issue and when I was just reading this my husband pointed out I had a zit. I am 11 weeks also. I haven't broken out since I was a freshman in high school and I'm 27! I switched all my face products to bare minerals, face wash and makeup! I have always used their makeup, but the face wash and exfoliate have been amazing! I read that any acne medication even topical is not good to use during pregnancy :( oh the joys of pregnancy!
  • I've struggled with acne more in my adult life than I did as a teen unfortunately, since becoming pregnant I've switched to coconut oil as a cleanser (ie oil cleansing method) and an apple cidar vinegar mixture as toner (yay natural, boo temporary awkward smell), and I'm finding that working better for me than any other products I used pre-pregnancy. Most my face is clearer than its been in years. Any zits I do get are very small and heal quickly.
  • I have not had problem skin in the past. However, I break out more now, of course. I use organic coconut oil as a face cleanser and makeup remover. I also exfoliate daily with coconut oil and baking soda. I keep it all natural with this cheap combo and my face had never looked better. I buy the coconut oil from Costco. I even got my mom hooked on this face treatment and she swears by it too!

  • i went to lush cosmetics today and picked up mask of magnaminty (which I used pre-pregnancy and love) and the tea tree water spray.  Just used both and my face feels so fresh and clean and i'm hoping this helps!!!
  • Boobne. Yes, that is acne all over my boobs. I feel like I'm 15.

  • @babymcb21‌ what is the combo you use for the toner? Apple cider vinegar and what else?
  • And this might be a silly question, but when you use coconut oil to clean your face-you just rub the oil all over and then rinse it off with water?
  • Mine too -_- and my forehead
  • I put it on and rub it on to loosen the makeup then I wipe it off with a tissue
  • I don't mean to have you lose hope but when I was pregnant with my daughter I had the worst cystic acne. I would look in the mirror and just cry and cry. Even now I have acne scarring from the pregnancy. Most acne during pregnancy is hormone related which means nothing will help.

The one product I would try is a benzoyl peroxide lotion not wash. It is safe for pregnancy.
  • mpower0606, sorry for the late response...I never bump on the computer :). I use just use ACV and water. I do like 50/50 but the ratio depends on your skin type. Here is the link I got the idea from: https://coconutsandkettlebells.com/diy-apple-cider-vinegar-facial-toner/

As for the coconut oil, yea I basically just rub it all over lol. Then I put a very hot wash cloth on my face for 30ish seconds, which supposedly opens your pores...then I wipe it all off. The link above had a lot of good coconut oil info too.

For the sake of full disclosure, my skin has retreated back to a pretty crappy state lately...but none the less, I plan to stick with this routine, as I think it'll be better (at least no worse) than any other skincare routine I've tried. I have many other factors that go into my acne problem, but this method seems to work great for a lot of people.
