sleep advice

Looking for advice/feedback etc. My DD is going on 8 weeks and is sleeping pretty good considering. She does one long stretch, however this is where it gets tricky.

I feed her around 7:30-8 hoping thats her last feed as it takes her up to an hr to fall asleep after. She  will fall asleep and it seems like a nap because she will awaken again maybe 9 ish. I end up feeding her again and then she finally goes to sleep, say 10ish. So how do I work to set her up  for her 7:30-8 feeding to be more of her bedtime? I know its early for set routines but I want to do the best I can to establish the correct routine. I also have a 3 year old so I am trying to get to bed as early as possible but waiting for that last feed makes things tricky. Thoughts? Ideas?

Re: sleep advice

  • Yes, that 9pm feed is fine. She will then sleep for about 4-5 hrs. and yes, I agree on the lucky part. Its more so that I am trying to figure out how to make her 7-7:30 feed the one that puts her out, otherwise we are staying up to wait for her next feeding and for her to fall asleep. It can be hard bc DH goes to bed early and I am up so early that some nights I want to wind down myself by 8:30-9. My DS never went to bed early and I am thinking his sister might be the same way. lol

  • This is my DD's "schedule" as well. But she sleeps until 4/5am. So I take it. I assume as she gets older I can work the bedtime back or she will fix it herself.

  • Most 8 week olds are going to wake up for a late evening feeding.  My advice would be to get yourself ready for bed, relax and unwind, then feed her when she wakes up during the evening and you can both go to bed after that meal.

This is what I have been doing. Some nights I want to go to bed earlier but I stick it out.

My LO is 7 wk and also used to eat at 7/8 and again 10/11.  This week, I started a bath nightly (mostly just letting her hang out in warm water, I only soap her down twice a week) for about 15 min.  So my schedule: feed around 7, burp (about hour), then bathe, talk to her in her bedroom with little lighting and then top her off with another bottle around 8:30-9.  Since I started this routine 5 days ago, she has been waking up around 3am, and then up for the morning at 6:30.
My husband gets our 3 1/2 yo ready for bed (shower, teeth, bathroom, and bedtime story) and then when I'm done with baby, I hang out with our toddler for 15 min on her bed talking to her before she falls asleep.
This week, I finally feel like there's some order.  I wonder how long it'll last!?
I hope this helps and good luck!
