Oh the nausea...

This is my first pregnancy and the all day long nausea may be the death of me! I've tried saltine crackers, ginger ale, peppermints, and all sorts of other things and no relief! Does anyone have any other suggestions that worked for them?

Re: Oh the nausea...

  • You aren't alone hun.  And I've tried EVERYTHING that people have suggested with no luck.  I see the doc tomorrow and I think I'm going to beg for meds.  If you do find a "magic pill" please let me know!  I'm about 2 days away from checking myself into the mental hospital...

  • You aren't alone. This is my 2nd and the nausea is far worse this time. Dr gave me meds but they make me dizzy and tired and bring on horrible headaches.... All the things that make me nauseous. Having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel since I feel like vomiting all day long....
  • I feel the same way. I've been up since 5:00am hoping my stomach settle before going to work....I don't think I'm going to make it. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of just telling my boss (who is a male) that I am pregnant over an email. I already missed 2 days last week. Feeling stressed!!

  • @beemaya83 - I finally had to tell my boss last week because I kept having to go home from work.  They thought I had a serious case of the lazy.  Thank goodness he was excited!

  • My friend suggested sour things and sea bands.

Both help me somewhat. But I can't wear the sea bands at work all the time (mighty suspicious wearing motion sickness bands sitting at my desk) so it's only helpful if I'm 100% alone or wearing a long sleeve sweater to hide them.
  • My doctor gave me Diclegis and granted I have only taken 2 doses but I feel fantastic!!

  • @shanaUW I ended up pulling through and didn't have to tell. I really, really want to hold off as much as I can.

  • Mine started saturday. Since then, I feel like crap and the thought of food isn't good. I've been trying to nibble as much as possible.

Also the people who keep telling me I HAVE to eat healthy I want to smack. I will eat what looks good at the moment and I know will stay down.

  • I started diclegis last night and today I am a brand new person. I was vomiting every morning and night and nauseous all day. Today I have an appetite and feel somewhat normal. Praying this stays. One of the side effects ia drowsiness but I couldn't sleep anyway so I was always tired. Drowsy is much better than puking and drowsy! Also it is a bit expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it but go to diclegis.com and print thw coupon. A friend told me about it and I have thanked her a million times today!
  • Sugared gum, right when nausea hits, was effective in the second and third trimester last time (didn't know about it in first tri.  At the moment, it's effective for temporarily staving it off, like if nausea hits while driving so I can at least get home before throwing up.)  Try different types of water (last time it was seltzer water, at the moment filtered water works and seltzer water makes me nauseous.)  Ginger tastes like vomit at this point, but peppermint tea is what I drink if I'm not able to keep other liquids down.

My OB office suggests B6, Dramamine, unisom plain (half tablet up to 3 times a day), or Emetrol.
