I didn't register for one and instead got the Fisher Price portable basinette. Mistake! My daughter wouldn't sleep anywhere but on our chests the first 3 weeks. She HATED being flat on her back. No reflux or other health problems. I went out at 9pm one night and bought a RnP. She's been sleeping in it without problems for 5 weeks now. Worth every penny for our sanity.
Long story short: register for one. If your kid does well in a regular basinette or crib right away you can always return it or sell it on Craigslist.
Thanks! Everyone just RAVES about them so I think I have to get it!
We are adopting domestically and we wont be having a shower until possibly 6-8 weeks after our placement. I am trying to decide which items to buy now, and which items to register for.

Loved ours. DS slept in it at night when we came home from hospital, for three months. Get the plush one. Folds easy, can bring from room to room, grandparents, etc.
DD used hers for nights for the first 6 weeks and then for naps until she was about 7 mos old. Best thing ever. DS wasn't a huge fan. He started trying to wriggle out of it at around 2 mos. He would scoot his butt down until his legs were hanging over the end. It was very weird. I still highly recommend it, though! It's great to have baby right next to your bed at night those first weeks and then it's super-portable so the baby can be where you are during the day too. Best of luck with your placement!!
I heard elsewhere you cannot use them for all night sleep, but some of you said that you did. Anyone know if you can? I was hoping to get one as a sleeper for nights for the first 2-3 months, but now I am worried.
I love our RnP! DD slept in hers for the first month at night until we moved her to her crib and she still sleeps in it for naps. It was very convenient for our small bedroom and for packing up to take to the in-laws.

Yes, you can. That's what they are marketed for.
no, actually, they aren't. They are for naps, when the baby is being monitored by an adult. They are not recommended for overnight sleep, or sleep when an adult is not present. They put the baby into a C position, which can restrict breathing.
Some people use them for overnight sleep, because the baby needs to sleep on an incline due to reflux. But inclined sleeping should not be the first choice. Flat sleeping is recommended.
There are items similar to a RnP that can fit next to your bed, and allow the baby to sleep flat. I got the Tiny Love 3-in-1 Napper, which works as a flat bassinet, and can be tilted up to a slightly reclined seat for awake times. It rocks and vibrates. I have a small apartment, so it was great as a space saver. My daughter slept in it next to our bed the first 3 months.
After so many people raving about them as sleepers when I had DS I looked into them for DD due in March. I also found them to be a no no for sleeping. Read the guidelines from the Pediatrics, I feel better sticking with a flat surface.
I agree to an extent. But at some point if you have a baby who will not sleep. You will do whatever possible for them TO sleep/stay sleeping for longer then 30 minutes ( so you can sleep yourselves). I thought I'd never let LO sleep in a swing or rock n play. But ultimately I needed sleep, and so did baby.
I didn't have any problems transitioning from the rock n play to the crib, although lots of people do. I started using it about about 1.5 months until she was 4 months. At four months she was able to roll, and ultimately was a tummy sleeper, which I'm assuming is why she would not sleep on her back.
All of this. You will do whatever it takes to get your baby to sleep.
We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!

My DD (6wo) sleeps in it for her first stretch of the night (before her middle of night feeding). After her night feeding I put her in her crib. I don't think we really needed it -- my MIL gave it to us after finding out DD has mild reflux -- but DD loves it and falls asleep faster in it.
It is marketed that way. Here's from the Fisher Price website:
An inclined sleeper and playtime seat in one—now with calming vibrations! The inclined seat helps baby sleep all night long. A gentle push from mom rocks the sleeper back and forth. Additional features include a light-weight design for portability and storage, three-point restraint and linkable teether. Insert is machine washable and dryer safe.

Flat surface is fantastic if your baby doesn't have reflux. In a perfect world for all of us. Lol. Our first baby had to sleep on an incline for the first two months. We tried mattress wedges but all it did was cause her to slip to the bottom of the mattress. We used the RNP for two months, for overnight sleep. Once baby can turn his head toward the sides or can start trying to sit on his own, I would stop using it straight away. The major concern there has been over RNP use for overnight sleep is torticolis. Give your baby plenty of floor time and tummy time. We had absolutely no problems and got the ok from our pedi to use the RNP. I believe much of what you read about this product is hype. Use your own good judgment and do what works best for your baby.
