@sparklegrump What about her mouth? She's got it there too. Luckily not on the butt. Can I use coconut oil there? Last time only I had it. My other daughter was fine.

  • A mix of vinegar & water really helped both of my kids when they had it. I used gentian violet with DD. Also, get lotrimin for your nipples. You can also put the lotrimin on LOs butt. The nyastin didn't work for either of them.
  • I think Apple cidar vinegar is the type of vinegar to use. One tbl spoon to one cup of water and use a new cotton ball to rinse the nipple after feeding.

If you put lotrimin on your nipples make sure you wash it off first. The vinegar mixture doesn't have to be washed off, and you can also swap it on lo's tongue and butt. Make sure their butt is completely dry before putting diaper back on. If you do the gentian violet put it on your nipples and baby's mouth tight before bed. That stuff will stain everything so handle with care. You just need a little bit on the end of a qtip.

Also start washing everything in hot water, and add some vinegar to the final rinse cycle. Yeast can live in clothing even through the wash if not treated properly.

    do you CD?
  • Gentian violet from a natural foods store cleared ours up quickly. It stains everything pretty bad though including skin. My LC had me take a swap to baby's mouth and my nipples. But like I said...your baby will have a purple mouth for a few days lol.
  • @rlyttle no I use disposables. But I probably have to wash my bras separate..
    Thanks ladies
  • @sparklegrump coconut oil does not look at all like I expected coconut oil to look. Is it supposed to be white and sort of thick or did I grab the wrong stuff lol

Yep, it's saturated at room temp. That's the stuff! Tip: cook scrambled eggs with a little bit of coconut oil and stir a dollop in a mocha. Oh my good.
Oh my god that sounds fantastic...
  • Don't stir the eggs in the mocha. Those are two separate suggestions.

Lol.. And here I was thinking that would be an easy on the go breakfast idea
  • Gentian Violet worked for us! 3 treatments and it was gone - but invest in some rubber gloves.
  • Vaseline around LO's mouth if you're using Gentian Violet.

Does it keep the staining down to a minimum?
  • We used the Vaseline and it really helped keep the staining down. We also learned that baby wipes helped right after the feeding.
  • I just spent the good part of a day searching the only two health food places in town and neither store has gentian violet... Crap..
  • Amazon has GV. How is the thrush battle going? Any luck?
  • My nips feel so much better and her butt looks better. However I have to retrain her on her latch..
  • What did you use on your nips?
  • I've been using coconut oil but when I saw the rash on her butt that the oil wasn't touching I asked her ped for nystatin. I've got an oral for my nips and her mouth and a cream for her bum
