Okay, so this might be a little silly but the push present had me thinking about gifts during/after pregnancy.

In my first pregnancy, one of my friends put together a care basket with me in mind, loofa, nail polish, relaxing bath bubbles, a pedicure gift card. It was one of the sweetest gifts I got because let's be honest, being pregnant is hard. Having someone acknowledge and sending a little TLC specifically my way made me feel really special.

So my question: Regardless if it was a gift for you or LO, what are some of the coolest/most special things you have gotten? What are things that you like to give to other expectant moms?

I received a framed picture that i fell in love with for the nursery. Also, my rocker/recliner was a big surprise.

My grandmother made a beautiful white afghan with ribbon running through it for me to use with my children. I didn't get it until my shower but she made it several years ago when she was having hear trouble and she wanted to make sure that my children would receive something made by her. The pattern is similar to lace on the family baptism gown that was made from her wedding dress and veil. I love that she is giving me a piece of her to share with my children.

At showers I liked to give moms practical stuff they need and a handmade item or two. Once babies are born I try to get the mom something for them and when I visit, I always try to ask about them and not focus solely on the baby.

My mom's friend got me a super sexy XL nightie from VS and I was mortified opening it in front of everyone. Her sentiment was nice, like I should still feel feminine even if I have a big baby belly, but 1. It was from my mom's friend, 2. Since it was XL the silk and lace was an excessive amount and overall embarrassing to pull out.

My favorite gift was a pile of onesies that my friend had embroidered funny sayings on: there's one with a lace collar that says "Yo." on the left breast in pink thread and it's the best thing ever.

Yeah. Me, too! Nothing for the pregnancy, almost nothing for the baby. Although my mom bought a few outfits for the baby early on in my pregnancy, but otherwise.... nada.

As for what I give? The product that I manufacture (and import and export). It is awesome for pregnant women, new moms and babies. I also often give a sleep sack or some other essential.

Haven't gotten it and haven't given it, but a gift certificate for a maid service or for a deep cleaning would be totally awesome prebaby. That's the one thing I want most right now and can't seem to get: a clean house.

We received a hand stitched, handmade quilt with lots of personalized details from DH's best friend's mother. It is gorgeous. This woman is so awesome and has been so kind to me. She made the quilt as a gift to me specifically, not for DH as she made very clear! She will make a great MIL someday, I'm positive of it.

I am not a nic nack person at all. I dislike clutter but my mom got us a Willow Tree husband/wife statue for my bridal shower and an pregnancy one for the baby shower. When my husband's mom passed away we recieved a Willow Tree Angel with her name on it so its the one type of Nic Nack I collect/actually like.

When DS was born my DH bought a mother-son one and brought it to me at the hospital. It was my favorite gift because it has sentimental meaning. He will probably get a mother daughter one this time around.

My go to gift for good friends/family is a cute outfit for baby and a gift certificate for ordering groceries online for the new parents. Even if they are not cooking meals right away and have people bring them meals, or ordering take out for them I figure everyone still needs snacks and basic staples and who wants to go to the grocery store with a newborn!

My sister gave me a stack of clothes that my mom had bought for her daughter (who is now 12) when she was born. Since my mom has passed, I cherish these items. Best gift by far.

One of my close friends dropped off a gift bag as soon as I told her I was pregnant. It had decaf green tea, saltines, a Ghirardelli cabernet chocolate bar (to replace my evening glass of wine), and chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds. Soo thoughtful and I'm now obsessed with the cabernet bar.

My sister and BIL sent a beautiful bouquet from halfway around the world and signed Aunt XX and Uncle YY. Really meaningful because it's not always clear that she's excited about the baby.

I'm boring and usually just pick gifts off friends' registries =/.

A few special gifts come to mind, and I am so grateful for each one.

My boss had a baby basket from Saks delivered to us after DD was born it was full of clothes and blankets and a stuffed bunny rabbit.

My BFF gave me a pregnancy care basket for Christmas when I was pregnant last winter it had fluffy slippers, gift card to Red Lobster (my fav) electric candles (kids safe) and Bio Oil.

My mother and grandmother sew and knit all kinds of clothes and blankets for baby (I'll cherish these items forever)

DH gave me a silver bracelet with DD's initials on it for Mother's Day (2 mos after she was born)

One of my coworkers got me a Metallica lullaby CD. Which was awesome!

My 30th bday was this month and everyone got me gift cards for clothes so that I can buy myself a new wardrobe after Cam's arrival since I've stretched a lot of my clothes out :P

My mil passed away when I was pregnant with ds. Her best friend gave me a baby blanket that mil had made for one of her kids with a letter written to my son about his grandmother. Needless to say, I was a sobbing mess at my baby shower but they both mean so much to me.

I'm not having a shower until after and my family's not very sentimental (read: good at remembering to give gifts lol). But two friends really awed me with out-of-the-blue thoughtfulness. One mailed me a package with belly butter, stretch mark oil, firming breast cream, peppermint foot and leg gel, and shower cream. Another met up with me to give a handmade baby blanket, it's so beautiful! I couldn't believe the work put in, I hadn't seen her in two years!
As for gifts I give, it's always books. I'll include a gift receipt and won't write in the books just in case they have them or don't like them but no complaints so far
