PT/ Daycare / What would you do?

So,  DD has started asking to go "tee tee" and she will pee and poop in the potty at home. I am another in the boat of I was not considering potty training until next summer at the earliest . (I still have not succeeded in PTing my foster son that is 10 months older). I thought that kids that kinda potty train themselves are like unicorns.....people talk about them but they don't really exist. At this point she consistently poops in the potty but still pees in her diaper a lot.

What is your daycare's policy on potty training?

Our daycare does not potty train until they move to the "twos" room because before that they do not have potties in the rooms. I don't know what to do. For the past two weeks I have just been letting her go when she asks at home but that has pretty much been it. I hate to NOT follow her lead if she is ready because I am scared it will make it harder later. I COULD ask that daycare move her up early I guess but I don't think she is ready? She uses words ok at this point and has some phrases etc so I am not TOO worried about communication but she was really late to develop when it comes to gross motor skills and she is tiny. She did not take steps until 18 months so is still not that steady and is not quite 20 lbs. I am afraid in a room of 2-3 year olds she will get trampled. I really have no idea what I am supposed to do in this situation.

What would you do?

Re: PT/ Daycare / What would you do?

  • We talked about pt-ing at our mommy-and-me class yesterday. Someone brought up being afraid to miss "the window," and our instructor said there would always be another one, and another one.

I think keeping her in her age-appropriate group for now would be my decision. It's not too long before they'll move her up anyways, and if she is comfortable in that group and going in her diaper at daycare, then I think it's fine.

  • I don't know if this is an NC state thing or consistent everywhere - but our daycare will not move anyone into the 2s room until they are actually 2.  The ratio is higher, and legally they cannot have any kids under 2 in the room given the ratio they are using....just something else to think about.  It may not be possible even if you want it to happen...
