For those of you who had babies that were born weighing over 8 lbs, did your baby ever wear newborn sized clothes? I'm looking at the clothes and 0-3 size looks really big for a newborn but it is meant for babies 8+ pounds.

For this baby (doctor said was 13.5 percentile based on ultrasound, but they told me my son was 15th percentile and he came out 60th percentile), I'm taking a NB onesie for pictures and a 0-3m footie pajama for coming home.

FTM, but Noob is on track to be over 9 lbs if he comes on scheduled date instead of early, but I'm packing NB and 0-3 for going home outfit just to be safe.
Just from looking at the newborn clothes from my shower, it has to depend on the brand. Some look like Barbie doll clothes......and some look like they are 0-3 month size.
The tiniest ones are so freaking tiny.....I don't forsee us using them at all.
As for diapers, DH filled the nursery organizer with the NB size ones and they are so freaking tiny. Not sure if we'll use those or not, but I am sure we'll try.

Thanks for this! I bought 1 pack of NB size and had one given to me. I bought a GIANT box of size 1 and when I compared them I was so surprised at the difference. I think I have enough NB for now and will send someone out if I need more. People are always looking for ways to help, right?
Both length and weight will factor in. NB will fit a long 8lb baby differently than a short 8lb baby.
Also as PP's have mentioned Brands fit differently as well. Carters tends to be longer/leaner, Gerber is just tiny overall (I really don't carr for Gerber at all). Granimals tends to be shorter but wider.
It doesn't really get much better as they get older either. My son is 26 months. He mostly wears 18 month pants ans 18-24 month shirts. 2t swallow him. Had no idea before that 24month and 2t were a different size! His winter coat to play outside is 18months and a bit big but his fleece he wears everyday is 24months and fits perfect. And I just bought him 12 month snowpants that are big on him!
I tend not to look at size when sorting my sons clothes now even at 2yrs. I find one pair of pants and shirt that I know fit and hold clothes up to those as I pull out of storage containers to decide what will fit and what will be too big still. (95% of our clothes are hand me downs).
He came home in newborn and wore it for almost a month.
He only lost 3 oz so his weight was not a factor.
Also, he was 20".
my happy boy
This time I'm just bringing 2 outfits, a nb and a 0-3. I also had a skinnie-minnie baby so there is no predecting with me haha!
I know people whose babies are born in the 9 lb range & they went straight to 0-3 month clothes & size 1 diapers. You never know how big your baby will be, so with DS we only had like 3 newborn sleepers, just in case we couldn't use them. We waited until we knew he could wear them for a little bit before we bought anything else!
I agree that it depends both on the brand and the baby. My kids have all been long and lean and outgrew clothes lengthwise long before they filled them out.
DS was 7lbs 6oz and 21" long. I ended up buying him a preemie onesie just so he would have something that he didn't swim in. It only fit him for a week or two, but it made me feel better.
DD1 was 7lbs 15.9 oz and DD2 was 8lbs 1oz and both wore NB for several weeks depending on the brand of clothes. 0-3M was way too big for them in the hospital. I expect this LO to be the same way, so I'm only bringing NB outfits.

Wait, What?!? - EDD 11/1/19
My son was 9lbs - I bought a newborn sized coming outfit for him before they started to tell us he was going to be about 9lbs. I put him in it, but we had to stuff him in - it was tight. The few other things newborn sized he never wore so we were pretty much right in 0-3 - some of it was a little big but not huge to the point he couldn't wear it. He was 21.5 or 22 inches - so tall - but weight-wise newborn was too small for him. We used newborn diapers - a small package and went right to size 1 within a week or two. This time I didn't even buy newborn clothes or diapers (they are telling us this guy is large again). Watch he'll be a small baby and we'll have to run out and buy newborn clothes and diapers.
